What do pplz have against rap?

I just kind of think the words are inaudible, and I'm one of those people who likes upbeat music like... "Walk Away" or "Loco-motion"

Some rap is OK, but I'm just not into it, I'm not against it, I'm just not into it...

Rap is meant to be poetry put to a beat, but in most cases it is devoid of any worthwhile message. If you don't understand the lyrics, all you have is a beat that could only pass as a ringtone ten years ago...

By the way, I hate My Chemical Romance and I've never heard of Nickleback.

It's not the "music" but the whole image. I like the oldschool like Public Enemy, Run-D.M.C., & the Beastie Boys but I can't stand any of the modern stuff. The whole modern rap image and high speed intense gangster rap isn't my bag of tea.

Of the newer stuff I like rapcore. Though technically not rap tis more of a rap-rock or rap-metal fusion.

Ok, My Chemical Romance isn't good. Nickleback is ok. I personally don't see rap as music, because I'm a music student. It's talking fast, no melodies or harmonies (except in the background, but those people don't get credited. I've actually seen Ray Charles used in the background of Gold Digger...and it made me angry. Ray Charles and Rap don't mix). It only has rhythm.

I actually have MORE of a problem with modern rock and death metal, because they have a similar problem. Metal don't sing, they scream. Mod Rock can sing...but horribly. That's why I listen to 60's, 70's, and 80's rock. You know, classics like the Beatles, Queen, REO speedwagon, Boston, Billy Joel, etc.

i personally h8 rap cuz they earn money wit sum stupid lyrics they say during that cwap beat ...
rap'll prolly die cuz ppl want more of guitar playin n drumming, now thats the real stuff ...

now this is funny ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9A2I-X7b-w
about rap lol

Well, like has been already said, we have something against mainstream rap (and mainstream music in general as is the case for some) for example, "artists" such as 50 Cent or Akon whose songs include explicit sexual themes, some with titles that would generally put off people from listening.

I myself don't claim to have heard much rap to make a proper judgement, although I don't doubt the fact that there is some out there that is decent but definitely not that stuff you hear on people's phones. :/

It's not rap that sucks.

It's the mainstream that sucks.

The mainstream takes everything that could be possibly nice and pleasant, and turns it into over-processed and overplayed crap you hate by the week's end.

Wu-Tang and Method Man make me smile, no matter what any of you haters say.

They're rap and I sure as hell like them a lot more than your Nickelback/MCR/Hawthorne Heights/Killswitch Engage/whatever your poison is.

Not all rap is crap. Expand beyond your mainstream pallet and you may like what you see. Maybe not. Either what, whatever.

[S*P]

i agree that not all rap is crap ...
for e.g. ... eminem ... he's a legend ... respect ^^

Like everyounce of rap is either; Pirated schemes or Synthesized.

Not real music

Rap is as much as music as whatever you listen to.

Also, rap won't die until there's absolutely no one left that likes it.

That won't happen for a while.

rap's awesome and if you can't understand it get yours ears checked.
what about screamo all the do is go waaaaaaahhh waaaaaahhh waaaaahhhh and say stuff nobody can understand..

dude memphis ... that was a post from a real noob ... i mean u can rly c u donno anything about music what so ever ...
i've been thru pop, rap, rock n now metal so i can tell ya that u dont need any skills 2 be a rapper, for e.g. take 50 cent ... even i could do what he's doin ... so bad ...
n for u 2 be in a metal bend u gotta have skills n years n years of hard work ... so u could be able 2 play the guitar or drums or 2 have a voice which will go along wit the instrument playin
as for rap, there r no instruments, just sum stupid beat goin bum bum thru the whole song n then sum guy puts sum lyrics that rhyme n u call that a song ... yea rite

For those that are questioning weather or not it is music lets look up that term on the trusty Merriam Webster's Dictionary:

Main Entry: mu·sic
Pronunciation: 'myü-zik
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: Middle English musik, from Anglo-French musike, from Latin musica, from Greek mousikE any art presided over by the Muses, especially music, from feminine of mousikos of the Muses, from Mousa Muse
1 a : the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity b : vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony
2 a : an agreeable sound : EUPHONY b : musical quality
3 : a musical accompaniment <a play set to music>
4 : the score of a musical composition set down on paper

So lets do the breakdown comparing modern rap:
1 a - No
1 b - 1.5 / 3 Yes, No, Maybe
2 a - No, not for me.
2 b - No
3 - Nope
4 - Nope

Now lets average that out...
The Math: .5 /2 = .25 /4 = 0.0625

So rap is 6.25% music. Yes it has music but it's a pretty pathetic amount if I do say so myself. Even if you turned that lone maybe and rounded up we are still only talking about 8.25% here.

Alright so maybe unlike me you find rap agreeable lets recalculate still rounding up:
The Math: .66 /2 = .33 +.5 = 0.2075

Even if you find it agreeable it still end up just under 21%. Again not even a quarter music.

This is my opinion.

1# Rap has no melodies or anything that can make it sound good without a voice.
2# Almost all beats are a single note playing every second.
3# Rap doesn't even have any singing it's like Mr.Altosax said people talking fast or just talking.
4# They all 'rap' about money, drugs, sex and stuff like that which has no importance to anyone, it turns them into idiots.
5# Biggest problem is that everyone in the rapping business does drugs or is challenged. (lol, no offence)

The good things about other themes is:

1# They have alot of melodies and rythyms and things that can make a song sound awsome without a singer.
2# They all have people singing. (except for techno and home grown songs)
3# The people singing or making the music are normal and don't really care about being cool or anything like that, they live they're life and they're dream, simple.

Anyway, thats just my opinion.
(sorry for the content :P)

I'm sorry, but we need to take another look at this.

1. a. Yes, they do order tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity. They do.
b.Vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony. Yes, I'd say rap has this as well
Not To mention the fact that this is a definition of Music by Western Standards. There are many Japanese and Chinese songs (as well as many scattered throughout India and Africa) That are not set down on paper, do not order tones in succession, in combination, or in temporal relationships, but still have a unity and continuity all of their own. Just because Webster sets down her definition of Western Music doesn't mean that cultures who have never even heard of Webster have to all of a sudden change to a guitar and drums. It just means that Webster is an idiot.

Let's face it, Rap is music. Anyone who says otherwise is just biased against people who listen to it. If Rap wasn't music it'd have been laughed of the face of the Earth a long time ago. Do I enjoy artists like 50 cent or lil' kim?
Not really, but every now and then I'll hear a rap song I like. I like hip-hop more than rap (yes, there is a distinction). And to that kid who says he's taking music studies, I think he needs to stop lying, or finish his course.
Actually, my favorite band is the Beastie Boys, I love the Sounds Of Science and I believe that they do absolutely beautiful work. If you haven't heard any of their songs other than Brass Monkey, Fight For Your Right (To Party), or Intergalactic Planetary, then you have no right to continue to discuss their works. They have far better tracks than those three.

Infact the beastie boys were a metal band before they started rapping.

I mostly enjoy old school rap, like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and I forget who else right now, as I am drunk and tired.
But Rap is music, you're allowed to hate it, sure you are. But to deny that it is music is ignorant.
