What do you base your team on?

I'm always trying to form a team with type advantages against all types, so that I'm prepared to face whatever type I'm going up against.
I know it's not a very good strategy, but it's the one I've always used :/

I tend to have a balanced team which always has fire, water and grass types in it. The other types are random, usually flying, ground and etc. One pokemon usually has a duo-type, it's very convenient.

My teams always have two things in common-
1. They never have more than two Pokemon sharing one type
2. They are always based on high defensive stats.

My ethos on battle is this- if you can't be beaten then logically you must win.
