I didn't play the newer generations, so bear with me. I know ScarVio has an academy, because my partner is watching me write this and told me there was an academy that most of the storyline happens in. So this is with my general knowledge.
But, from what I remember, most of the actual schools and academies have to do with battle strategy more than actual history, writing, and so on. I think there are also schoolboys and schoolgirls as a trainer type, but I don't remember if they were actually connected to anything. Again, bear with me. I just remember that the primary form of schooling that we see in the game are various trainer schools that have a large function of helping the MC/player learn about different ways that they can battle. I have a few different theories about this:
1) Trainer schools actually do teach the students about what we would consider our education - teachers just specifically do it by using Pokemon battling (and other forms of Pokemon interaction) as the basis for teaching different subjects to students. Physics, biology, and so on are all topics that I can think of that can be taught through Pokemon, and maybe that is just something meant primarily for younger trainers compared to older trainers? Especially since there is a plethora of scientists and such, so I see it as plausible - there might be universities that are just not shown in the game, since the MCs tend to be very young, and probably would not be thinking about stuff like that.
2) Libraries are where most education primarily takes place (?). Hear me out here. You learn plenty about the lore of whatever region you are in, as well as various other miniscule things that happen throughout the Pokemon world. And we only see a small portion of what is in those libraries; who knows what's in there that we just cannot read? But, because of that, and the fact that it seems as though a lot of the younger people in the Pokemon world are very enthusiastic about the world, maybe classes that students choose to take also happen there?
3) They just... don't go to school? Maybe they learn things on the job, and make scientific theories based on that, or whatever else it is that they are doing. People can maybe just decide to become a historian or a scientist on a whim and have to figure it out. I feel like this is the least plausible, especially given that there is an actual academy in Palda, but I don't know... maybe.
If someone could either kill me (jokingly) about this and tell me how wrong I am, or also provide their thoughts, I would love to hear!
