Because we have a thread highlighting our dislikes of this generation of games, wynaut have a thread emphasising some of the things we enjoyed or liked most about the 4th Generation? The question is simple! What did you like about 4th Gen Gaming? Perhaps it was the music is brought, the new areas, the new Pokemon?

Some of the things that stand out for me was definitely the graphical improvement made from the GBA to the DS (Gen III - Gen IV, respecitvely.) It really made my journies much much much more interesting, as I had an abundance of colour and different structures and buildings that some where somewhat in 3D, to look at.

What about you? What did you like?

I loved almost everything! I liked the rival, Barry how he was friendly but competitive All the starters had tons of potential. It was basically the generation of steel, I love steel types, empoleon, dialga- an awesome idea btw it only gets damaged by dragon attacks normally!! -, lucario etc. Most of my favorite pokemon were in 4th gen. In addition I really liked the Poketech and chaining pokemon for shinies. I love 4th gen so much!

Oh just about everything. Coming out of the GBA phase, the graphics were amazing, and so were the new Pokemon. The contests and stuff were ok, but Battle Frontier was the icing on the cake. You could actually do stuff post game.

Every single bit of it. It was my first Pokemon game that I REALLY got into. I have 200+ hours on it. It took me 48 hours to beat the elite four. The game was amazing.

I really like the improved graphics and the addition of traits in the Pokémon summaries!

Oh i loved a lot of things about the new generation, it brought a lot to the table, had amazing graphics and gave a whole new storyline to the pokemon franchise!

Wynaut xD. I still can't get over that joke.Anyway, the reason I found 4th Gen enjoyable and amazing was due to many features. The additions like your Pokemon following you, finally being able to check where a certain thing is (Berries, roaming legendaries etc.) made me feel more connected to the Pokemon world.

The graphics were outstanding,Gamefreak definitely did a great job there and I think this generation had the best soundtracks. With Red's and Lance's new updated theme, the Rulers of Time and Space (Dialga and Palkia) theme and Cynthia's quick, lively theme along with many more.

There were new exciting areas to explore, fun minigames, heaps of things to do with your friends,I loved the 4th Gen. And the storyline was decent too,I liked also how different Team Galactic was.Unlike the other teams who want to steal Pokemon, they have far more ambitious plans like taking over the universe which is a major problem and it was challenging to stop them.

Battles became harder and intense and the addition of the Underground was nice. You could also be more creative, with Poffin cooking and Secret Bases. The 4th Generation I certainly loved :3.

I loved lots of things about the 4th Generation. Coming out of the GBA era, I was totally impressed by the graphics, the story, the characters, and the designs of the Sinnoh Pokemon.

I especially loved HG/SS's Follow Me feature cos I liked having my Pokemon walk around with me, battles became more intense and Team Galactic were really hilarious. Some of the Sinnoh Pokemon are among my faves, especially the Piplup, Chimchar, Riolu and Starly lines.

That was why I enjoyed 4th Generation a lot.

My favorite part in HS/SS was the walking with pokemon thing and i'm hoping that it is applied again in the future games.
In D/P/Pt the storyline was pretty good and the new pokemon were awesome. That plus the 3D graphics makes it better.

The Fact that Pokémon Follow me.
And the Vs.Seeker is the best in D/P/Pt

The graphics. Wow. Switching from the Emerald graphics to the DP graphics was a big deal and a huge adjustment. The graphics wowed me.

I liked the homage paid too previous pokemon. Some may see it as "Oh no what have you do added an evolution to previous pokemon of older generations how could you!" I found it neat the abundance of evolutions such as Electivire, Magmotar, Rhyperior, Gliscor, etc. It was just neat to see all these pokes get an innovation after such a long time.

There was the region of Sinnoh which is my favorite. I liked the massiveness to it, it felt like there was a lot to do and see. Which really it seems like every generation is build on the previous in this aspect.

Follow Me was a nice touch in HGSS even though it was already done in Yellow with Pikachu.

My favorite feature which came with it being a DS Game of course was Wifi. Now I could trade with people worldwide instead of being right next to them. I found this concept facilitating and brought a lot of people together battling, trading, swapping data, and so on.

I see what you did there. lol

Me likes pretty much everything, from the new Pokemon to the new characters. It's pure perfection, and that's the main reason why generation four is my fave.

There are a lot of reasons I like the fourth generation, actually.

First off, I'm very fond of Cyrus and Cynthia. Cyrus' nihilistic outlook on life is one that I could appreciate, and having a female Champion - who was noticeably tougher than any Champion thus far - was just nice.

I feel like they upped the stakes a bit in terms of the villainous activities, as well. Much as I love the duality of Team Aqua and Team Magma - and I do, Emerald is one of my favourite games - Team Galactic didn't just want to conquer the world: they want to conquer Space and Time. I've never been particularly impressed with the story element of Pokemon - there's hardly anything there to be impressed by, after all, even with the fifth gen games - but it felt like they'd upped the stakes a little bit with these ones. It's a small thing, but naming the Commanders after planets gave that impression as well.

The new Pokemon themselves were nice; unlike the third gen, which only had a few nods to older Pokemon, and the fifth, which is entirely self-contained, the fourth generation seemed to build upon what was already out; it had several nods to older Pokemon, but it had plenty of all-new ones too. I've seen a lot of complaints about too many Legendaries, but this, to me, was just reflective of a wider pantheon, and a wider world: it was nice to see things that weren't just standard elemental beings; it went from Water, Earth and Sky to things like Space and Time.

HG/SS I liked for their nostalgia value, and because they introduced and re-introduced so many little things that I don't think should have ever been taken out in the first place. Pokemon following you around. Re-visiting old regions. Re-battling Gym leaders. The Pokewalker. The list goes on. It was nice to replay the second generation in a fourth generation format.

Since I am pretty new to the pokemon games, The first one I picked up was Pokemon Pearl (I didn't really was into this kind of game when a kid). Something about that game got into me.
Now every time I play it again I remember of that nostalgic feeling, with my empoleon, gastrodon, kicking some elite 4 ass for the first time, being forced to struggle with cynthia, good times.

I loved everything about everything... except Barry... and the sound Giratina makes when you start the game. It's an annoying screech, and I don't ever recall that being the 'cry' of him in the anime/movie.

Oh well.. I love all the pokemon as well.. except maybe Bidoof... and Buizel. They're just trash pokemon (and yes, I HAVE ev'ed them the right way).

Hmmm.. what else. Oh yeah.. the fact that I've bred and hatched over 60 chansey's (not even exaggerating) and I have not gotten a SINGLE bold-natured one. More of just rotten luck, but I tend to blame the game just because of the time I waste doing it.

Oh.. yeah.. and the internet. I was told I needed the 3 forms of Burmy to show to the boy in Pastoria in order to get the Macho Brace. I did this and I got nothing. 2 days after I saw the suggestion, the person edited his post and said "SORRY! My bad, you need a male and female Combee". Needless to say I was pissed off, and I no longer trust the idiots of the internet without cross-checking first :D

But yeah.. that'd be all I dislike about Pokemon DPPT... Everything else is amazing.. the Gyms (finally they have another electric-type gym!) and the rival location.. and Team Galactic (a little cheesy but OK). :D

I think my favorite thing about the fourth gen games was the physical/special split of attacks. Sure, it existed in a more primitive form in past gens, but this really changed the dynamic of how you raised your Pokemon and what moves you would give them. I've never really got into competitive battling, but I found myself more aware what kind of attacks best suited my Pokemon, which in turn made the game more fun for me.

I also really liked the remakes in HeartGold and SoulSilver. Gold was the game that I invested the most time into when I was younger, so to have highly improved graphics and having the ability to let one of your Pokemon follow you really got me hooked on the game.
