What do you prefer: XP or VX?

Ah... the age-old question. What do you think is better, RPG Maker XP or VX? I may have the opportunity to buy one or the other soon, now that I've played the demos, but I'm really split. >.<

On one hand, I've worked with XP longer. It has individual tilesets for each map where VX doesn't.

On the other hand, VX seems to be more user-friendly, and I've heard that RGSS2 is a lot easier to use. And besides, do I really need all those tiles?

I also have a different question. Do both of these allow people to play without XP/VX, one or the other, or neither? I've heard somewhere that as long as the other person has the RTP, the game can still run. Not fully sure on that one though.

Any help would be appreciated... And if this belongs in some other help section, sorry for the utter noobishness.

Well i would say rpg maker xp is better as you said it has more tiles and you can do alot on it. Lots of people use it therefore if you get suck there are loads of people to ask. Also there are lots of tutorials so you can learn how to do more stuff.

But reli the choice is yours pick which one you work best with

I think both makers have there pro's and con's. When I played around with RMVX I noticed it was really user friendly but the tile limititations flat out suck. RMXP has all the features as RMVX and more you just have to know a little about it. So if you only need a limited amout of tilesets for mapping I would use VX but if you need a wide range of different map types you would have to go with XP. That's just my opinion anyway.

Just for future reference, when you buy one of the makers, you are effectively buying both. That is because they both use the same activation system, and the code to activate one will also activate the other. As a side note, although vx is more user friendly, xp offers more in the way of advanced options, especially regarding mapping. Also, neither RGSS nor RGSS2 is more user-friendly than the other.

It really depends on the type of game you want to make. At the moment, I'm using XP because it has poccil's Pokémon starter kit, but I'm planning to buy VX and make a game with it too (my XP activation code doesn't work).

I believe XP is better. Purely for the large amount of resources.

Heh, If Poccil ever ported the Starter Kit to work on VX, I think the majority of Pokemon game makers would switch over. VX is starting to pull alot more resources together, but it still has a ways to go to catch up to the amount of support and resources that XP had.

Lol, if he did that then I would be stuck in the past again. I have been using RM2k3 while I saved up for RMXP. Meanwhile everyone was saying "Why don't you get RMXP"?

There is no way I am paying another $60 for VX after just paying the $60 for XP a few days ago.

Highly unlikely. I don't know about the other games here, but Titanium has many slightly different versions of the same few tilesets, many only used for one map. VX would be utterly useless for such games.

Pretty easy for me to say, I prefer RMXP, I like having a different tileset for each map, it suits the way I develop games...

Edit: After playing around with VX I must say my opinion has NOT changed, the mapping is crap, why do the tiles have to go back to being the same size as the person, they took a real step backwards with this one...
