You dont drown from falling in a lake, you drown from staying there

I suppose that's referring to the fact that you do not suffer the most from falling from grace, but from not taking the initiative to pull yourself out. All in all a great line. ^_^

Instead of worrying about whatever troubles you have, you should just worry about how you're going to get yourself out. Definitely a good way to go about life in general.

There's a lot of truth in that statement. Nobody is perfect, therefore we makes mistakes. It is those mistakes that makes us who we are. If we do not fall down, we do not learn how to get back up.

It isn't staying/wallowing in a bad situation that hurts a person, it's the lack of ability to get out of it.

*shrug* Good line, I think. ^^

You might not get in a bad situation all the time, but when you do, don't wait it out. Do something.

That's what I get from it.

We don't suffer from falling into depression, we suffer from not trying to get out of it.

You don't hit rock bottom by doing something wrong, you hit rock bottom by not wanting to fix it.

The faster you rescue yourself/get help, the better. Like most illnesses.

Lakes tend to drown people who don't know how to swim.

Watch where you're walking around large bodies of water.

    ...just kidding xD
I'm pretty sure that it means you can get into a lot of trouble, but you can always get out of it.
You won't be defeated unless you stay in that rock-bottom place.
If you try to get out, you'll probably succeed.
But if you stay down, you're going to get trampled on.

    I could easily respond with

You don't drown from staying there, you drown from having too much water in your lungs.

You're just overcomplicating it. Yes, it's obvious that you don't drown as soon as you fall in a lake, but falling in a lake implies that you were not expecting it, therefore the shock might immobilize you or disorient you, making you that much more prone to drowning. However, if you think clearly while stressed or under pressure, you wouldn't drown at all. You'd swim out of there immediately.

Your statement is true, but is it really necessary?
