I have some cards (a Kabuto, Wartortle, and Vulpix, to be exact) from the original set that have a W in the corner of the picture. Any idea what it means? Do they have a higher value? Any info would help greatly.

    W card

It was just some card which is release together in Wizards of the Coast's "TopDeck" magazine. For the "W" Wartortle it was release in the year 2000's March issue, while for Kabuto it was release in the year 1999's December issue.

Thanks. There's only problem: I got them from Booster Packs, because I never bought their magazines...

    W stamp

The base set 2 version of Wartortle also have the W stamp printed on it.

I've heard that some of the older promo cards were mistakenly inserted into booster packs (such as the "Pikachu in Ivy" promo in the Jungle set).

Some of them were. When i was younger, I got a few promos in booster packs.
