What eeveelution do you recommend?

Vaporeon is considered the strongest of the bunch by quite a significant margin... But of course eventually you'll want all of them and the question is just what order to do it in!

Jolteon is pretty beast in the main series games and Flareon tends to be the outcast.

I wouldn't say Jolteon is trash in GO. It's more like Vaporeon is overpowered by a long shot.

I have two CP2000+ Vaporeon and a third that can be buffed to CP2000+. I have another Eevee capable of evolving and if that turns out to be Vaporeon, it'll also be CP2000+. Meanwhile, Flareon would be in the CP1500-1700 range and Jolteon would be CP1300 or so.

All bow to the mermaid cat-dog.

Haha they all suck in the main games, but vaporeon is definitely OP in GO...
 
For me I wanted a Jolteon because I can't find Electric-types in my area. Water-types are pretty common so I didn't need a Vaporeon, but I got all three eventually. If you're lacking in Fire, Electric, or Water types then maybe you could evolve your Eevee to fill in one of the gaps.
 
Based on the fact every man and his dog has Vaporeon, and the rarity of Electric types in my area, i'm evolving my Eevee into a Jolteon, despite his sucky-ness.
 
Honestly even though Jolteon's CP is so woeful I would probably suggest going for him as every gym right now is spammed to heck with Water-types like Vaporeon and Lapras. Whilst Vaporeon is unarguably the strongest Eevee form in the game right now, Jolteon does perform a very useful niche!

Believe it or not you're better off fighting a vaporeon with another vaporeon here in the PokemonGo world. In the regular Pokemon games we are all so used to playing a super effective hit does 2x the damage a regular hit would do!! Here in Pokemon Go that damage is only 1.25x.

The difference in base HP between the 2 is so huge that the super effective move type does not compensate for the HP difference. So pretty much we all just need to get vaporeons and the game should be called VaporeonGo!

They still need to update a lot of things in this game in my opinion

Except your Jolteon can still lose to an AI-controlled Vaporeon of the same CP, haha. I've been there already... even with a 80%+ perfect IV Jolteon.

That's how much of a joke Vaporeon is.

A combination of Vaporeon having MUCH higher base HP and stamina, with comparable base defense, AND Water Gun dealing more than 2x base DPS than Thundershock. Sure, Thundershock would be super effective, but that's only 1.25x in PoGO, definitely not enough to overcome Vaporeon's stats.

Alright that makes a lot of sense but oh boy does that suck for poor ol' Jolteon. Hopefully they'll sort this out soon as all I'm seeing in every gym is a bunch of Vaporeon recently and it's getting very tough for my mediocre team to contend with them haha - was actually in the process of training up an Eevee myself to evolve into Jolteon for this reason as there are hardly any Electric Pokémon around here but guess I'll have to rethink that for now.

I assumed that was it but I've heard many times that Vaporeon should just sit there spamming its basic move in battles as it results in higher DPS? Is that false?

Vaporeon should spam Water Gun nonstop if its special move isn't Aqua Tail.

In terms of raw DPS output:
Aqua Tail > Water Gun > Hydro Pump > Water Pulse
 
Is it true if you name the evee before you evolve it, it will turn into the one that you want? I heard "pyro" would make evee evolve into flareon, and I can't remember the others off the top of my head
