4th Gen What Exactly is Manaphy?

I have two questions about Manaphy. The first one is what is Manaphy? Most Pokemon in the game is an animal in real life. Though I know not all are considering last time I checked, there is no giant, rampaging monsters destroying time and space currently.

My second question is for everyones opinion. Is Manaphy a Legendary? At first I believed it was, but it evolves from Phione and it can make eggs. Yet it has no gender (if I remember right) and there is only one on Mystery Dungeon 2. So what is your opinion?

Firstly it doesn't evolve from Phione, just if you breed it you get Phione instead of Manaphy for some reason.

Secondly I'm not really sure what it is, it doesn't have to be based off anything like a Tauros, it can just be an original creature

It's not opinion Manaphy is offically a legendary. Also, Phione does not evolve into Manaphy, Manaphy just makes Phione eggs.

Manaphy is also in Pokemon Ranger thats how to get a legit one then transfer it over to D/P/Plat.

Phione doesn't evolve into Manaphy, meaning there is only one per game, unless you transfer more. It fits all the criteria for a legendary, and it has been confirmed by pokemon.com as a legendary. It's definitely a legendary.

Phione and Manaphy are legends but what could be in real life? That's tough I don't think something like Mana exists :D

Yeah! He may be a completely fictional character not taken from any design of any animal. He's officially a legend. Phione too is confirmed to be a legend.

Manaphy + Phione's based on the Sea Angels (also known as Cliones), which is a type of sea slugs which swims by flapping their wing-like appendages.

Manaphy's an official Legendary - as it's confirmed by Pokemon.com + it even has its own movie + only one through Pokemon Ranger etc. Phione is ALSO a legendary but rather a failure one >.> By the way - Phione doesn't evolve into Manaphy unfortunately

Wow, I would have never though they could be sea angels. Thanks for the info.


And thanks to everyone you stated it is a legend and Phione does not evolve into Manaphy. It's been awhile since I had my Manaphy Egg and I though it started as a Phonie. I guess I was wrong. :s

Since Nintendo told me that Manaphy is a legendary Pokemon, then in my opinion its a legendary Pokemon

It's offically legendary already
There are a number of other legendaries who break usual legend rules
For example Latias and Latios have genders

There are plenty of Pokemon that don't have a "real life counterpart."

Manaphy (and Phione) is an official legendary. An ugly legendary, at that.

Last time I checked I haven't seen any animal that looks remotely like Mr. Mime or Jynx, though now that you mention it, Manaphy does look vaguely like a sea angel.

It's a Sea Angel, and yes, it's a Legendary Pokemon.
