What helps you go to sleep at night?

Like I said in the routine thread, going to bed at about the same time every night helps.

I also need darkness and complete silence when i'm trying to sleep; i'm a ridiculously light sleeper.
 
High School meetings/announcements. Classrooms. Boring college professors.

Jokes aside, I usually stay up way too late so when my eyes start to itch and my limbs ache a bit it's pretty easy to curl up underneath a bunch of blankets, put on an audiobook and doze off. If I need to sleep early I have this app on my phone that's basically just white noise. I put on ocean waves and this neat flute song... Plus some melatonin. I have another method if nothing at all is working, but I should probably keep that to myself.

My sleeping schedule is weird though. I'm usually up until about 4-5AM and then I sleep until like noon before work. So, meh. ^__^
 
I generally fall asleep watching something on my iPad. I'd say like 90% of the time I fall asleep with 30 Rock on... It's just a really relaxing show to me, somehow.
 
Actually being tired, for one thing...! Also, it helps if my bedroom doesn't feel like a bloody pot-boiler.

Other than that, once I'm asleep, the only things that can wake me are my own biological functions, loud/obnoxious noises, & really bright lights.
 
All I need is absolute darkness, and the sound of a fan purring.
 
Ugh, I wish going to sleep was easier. I have to have a good temperature, which can basically be anywhere from freezing cold to burning hot without me knowing until I get ready to go to sleep, a blanket on me since I can't sleep without having something on me unless I'm seriously tired, having to make sure I have turned off everything or it will be stuck in my mind until I go check, and then usually walking around for a bit since I get the feeling of pins in my legs if I don't move them often.
