What if you didn't become a PC supporter by donating?

    From what I've seen, other forums have different ways of having their members attain an "elite status", so to speak, such as being chosen by the staff, after having made constructive and helpful posts. Hypothesize for a moment and think, "What if this were how the PC Supporter System worked?" I assume Supporters would just jump up to the next tier after they'd continued to excel in their previous tier.

    Would you like if Supporters became Supporters in this way? Why/Why Not?

    Do you think it would cause a certain degree of jealousy between members?

    (Please note that this poll isn't implying that PC should make said changes to the supporter system, it's just pure, hypothetical fun.)
     
    I didn't get supporter status from donating. xD
    But if I had a paypal then I'd probably donate anyway. Te new features don't really matter to me tbh. Although they're nice to have. n_n

    I don't feel that this would exactly be a good idea as many people may get overlooked for the rank. A better idea really would be to have another rank for being a member who contributes to the forum. (Community Contributer.)

    Having supporter status simply as a rank could cause some serious jealousy, but having a different rank may solve it.

    Nope. PC would become a haven for attention seekers, smartie pantses, and jealousy.

    .......Depends. But if people are jealous of people who are supporters because they donated, that's dumb. Be a jerk, give a penny. You'll be a lame cheapskate, but you'd have the stupid blue username you craved.


    The only thing I know is, I would have had 25 more dollars if I never became a supporter. Hurr hurrr. I probably would have spent it on a hookah anyway.
     
    Mods can't be everywhere, so as Paradox said, people would be overlooked, and if you were one of those overlooked it would be incredibly frustrating. And yeah, it would cause jealousy if it were done in this way, because a lot more people would deserve supportership than were actually given it.

    I love the PC system :D you get to feel like you're legitimately helping the community!

    I can see this working for a forum with few members, but for a site as big as PC, it's too easy for someone to go unnoticed if they happen to make their posts in the less-active sections. then you'll have the people who pretend to be helpful just to gain status, then they do an abrupt about-face once they get what they wanted.

    Without a doubt, yes, particularly by those who feel they've been overlooked.
     
    Nah I don't really like the idea. Imo the only "promotions" given to members should be to make them moderators or higher staff. I like the supporter system the way it is. Too many issues about bias, overlooking, etc. would be caused by mods allocating supporter status really.

    -I don't like that idea. Everyone would extremely jealous of such a coveted position as a PC Supporter.

    -Oh absolutely. Everyone is envious of the other, and this would probably push some over the edge.

    Not at all. It's basically a system of favourites, which I think is terrible. As everyone here has also mentioned, there will also be people who are overlooked, especially since this forum is huge.

    Definitely. It would also cause some kind of rioting, I reckon. Out of pure jealousy.

    No. That just brings a lot of attention. It's like being a teacher's pet in a class.

    It can, but in reality I think it encourages the non-supporter members to donate. I've had some members ask me how I got the blue name, or decorate my profile in a different manner or in some cases, a blog. They weren't jealous, they were inspired. I think after that, I got some people to donate. :P
