As far as we know. Time is a measure of events in the past, present, or future. But, what is time really? What do you guys believe created time, what was the purpose of creating time? Is time a scientific term or a different theory?

    Discuss!

Oh my God this is such an awesome thread. Time, if you believe a lot of physicists, cannot be discussed without recognising that it is inexplicably linked to space. In this perspective of things though, the past and present and future always exist.

I personally don't believe this standpoint. I don't think the past exists anymore and I don't think the future exists yet. I believe there is only the present and that anything else is a human construct created out of memories and "dreams". This is precisely why I don't think time travel is actually possible.

As far as I am aware though, there's still a lot of uncertainty about time. Unlike space though, I don't believe time is a tangible construct. I think it is something we perceive that isn't really there.

Oh my god, the thinking hurts my brain.

I had a professor once that said there was a theory about time in which every single decision everyone makes (as simple as moving your head to the right or left) creates a different plane in time. And so there are infinite different planes for every decision every human could possibly make. So he said maybe it's possible to jump through these time planes. What?

I tend to just think the only thing there "is" is the present.

Are you sure he was talking about time-lines but not about paralell universes? This makes sense when trying to understand how quantum mechanics work; in fact, this is the only way that quantum mechanics make any sense at all. However, if he was talking about time-lines, I'm not sure how a decision you make has any effect in other time-lines, much less creating them.

    I have no earthly idea.

I can't wrap my mind around stuff like this. I probably totally misunderstood him. Haha.
