So, I'm four towns into my game, and the tileset I'm using in RMXP has been working well up to this point. However, especially with a significant cave section of the game coming up, I need to be using a new tileset. Unfortunately, nearly all of the public tilesets I can find are in 16x16, whereas RMXP only takes 32x32. I'm using GIMP 2.0 at the moment for editing all of my tiles, but scaling 16x16 tiles up to 32x32 causes noticeable blurring, particularly around the edges of the tiles so that they don't fit completely within the grid.

How do you guys get the publically available tiles to fit in RMXP?

Upscaling them to 32x32 is a good start, however my suggestion and question: Have you set the Anti-Aliasing on GIMP 2.0 from Cubic to None? It adds a noticeable blur, and I had that problem a while back myself until I figured out how to fix it.

Try "Nearest Neighbour" if that's an option.

I think that is a Photoshop term... In GIMP, you want to set the Interpolation to "None" where it says "Cubic":

I found it easy to just use MS Paint to scale up stuff.

First, make sure to double the size of the canvas.

Use "select all" on your image, then right-click it and select "resize."

Change the height/width to 200 percent.

Boom there ya go. Nice and pretty.

With gimp, you want the "inetrpolation" section to be set to "None" as oppose to "Cubic", because Cubic destroys Pixel Art. I use GIMP to scale up my graphics all the time, and it should work for you.

But blah blah blah that's been pointed out for the nth time in this thread.

Scaling Interpolation is set to cubic...is that the same thing?

Yeah, as has been said already about four times in the thread, set the Interpolation to none. It ruins the graphics badly by adding a serious blur affect, which is likely what you're experiencing right now.

I think this question has been answered, beaten and flogged to death by now. There's no need to repeat what others have already said, guys.

    Thread closed.
