I have noticed in online battles that you can choose to play either lv 50 battles or lv 100 battles but i never understod what the point was with that. So i was wondering if any of you can explain what i'm missing :P

The differences are minute but they're there. In Lv 50 battles, most like Dragon Rage are more effective. There's also the consideration that some movesets that are designed to be divisible by certain numbers to exploit moves such as Substitute may be broken with the decrease to Lv 50.

There may be more but as I said, the differences are minute.

EVs have a bigger effect on level 100 Pokemon than on Level 50 Pokemon...
And some pokemon evolve after level 50, like for example Dragonite (of course this doesn't matter if the Pokemon can be at any level and are set back/forward to level 50.)

The effectiveness of moves such as Seismic Toss, Dragon Rage, Sonicboom and the like vary vastly when used in Level 50 battles as opposed to Level 100 battles.

There's also, as has been mentioned, the lack of Tyranitar and Dragonite, who evolve at level 55.

I never really thought about this, but thinking about it now, certain moves do get powered up like Seismic Toss or powered down like Dragon Rage.

Seismic Toss does approximately the same damage does it not? The ratio comes down to be approximately the same.

There is no lack of Tyranitar or Dragonite. The Lv 50 condition scales all Pokemon that are above Lv 50 down.
