Why does so many people hate the 3rd gen. so much?

It introduced natures, ivs, and evs which made battling a lot less boring.
It was the first handheld pokemon game with smooth graphics.
It also had some of the strongest and most well-designed pokemon *points to Salamence, Metagross, Gardevoir, Absol, and Flygon*

Whats so bad about it? It was my favorite generation...

    First two points, I agree.

For me, what turns me off to 3rd gen is that the designs of many of the Pokemon just seem bland and uninspired, especially in Pokes like Hariyama and Salamence. Plus, Ruby was the game that made me give up Pokemon.

Here's a few problems with the 3rd gen:

-Lack of creativity with some pokes (Spinda, Luvdisc)
-some pokemon were seen as generally clones of previous pokes (Butterfree=Beautifly)
-No day/night system, which was a great concept
-Not all pokemon are capturable in R/S (only 202 out of 386) and since they came out before anyone knew about Fr/Lg, it was a major disappointment not being able to "Catch em all"
-R/S I guess for some people weren't as fun to play as the previous games. IMO R/S were the worst of all the pokemon games, but that doesn't make them bad at all. They just weren't as good as the others.

I agree but not all of their designs are bland and uninspired,
I mean Absol and Gardevoir are one of the very few pokemon from the third generation that are very well-designed.

i agree and I prefer the 3rd gen metagame to be honest..(my gosh im turning into anti)

That is SO true. However, that game introduced the fun concept of contests, and the starters were pretty good.

I completely missed 3rd gen because I never bought a GBA. It was only after I played diamond that I bought emerald. The game was a little boring(not too much to do after you beat it) but the pokemon and upgrades from G/S/C were great!

I love so many 3rd gen pokemon.

Many people hate the 3rd Gen? I didn't know that.
Not me. I'm a loyal supporter of the 3rd Generation. :D

Some people that hate the 3rd Generation are those who remember the old days of the 1st and 2nd Generations. When the 3rd Gen. came out, they thought that Nintendo and Game Freak just lost that interest in making Pokemon what it was back then: a fun game. With how simple the designs were and how little of a connection there was between old and new games, those who were fans of Pokemon from the start began to drift away.

That said, I do like the 3rd Gen. It's just not my favorite generation. The games just weren't as fun as they used to be. (I do like FireRed, but that can really only be counted as a remake of the 1st Gen.) Nothing was new and exciting. But there are a few Pokemon that I enjoy, such as Flygon.

Back then, however, I didn't know about IVs or EVs, so I guess that could be considered. Along with the fact that Pokemon as a whole was getting boring.

    Side note, but...

It introduced natures, ivs, and evs which made battling a lot less boring.

IVs and EVs existed since RBY. They just haven't been going by the same names back then. Until GSC, EVs were known as Stat EXP, and IVs were known as DVs, if I recall correctly.

    But that's a nitpick.

With that said, I've never really noticed any RSE hatred. A lot of people I know seem to like RSE and RSE Pokemon. There's a lot more love for the Hoenn legendaries, for example, than the Johto legendaries, from what I can tell, and generally, people prefer those better graphics. If there's any reason for hatred, it's probably best described by Brock. *shrug*

back then i was too young to understand the concept of pokemon seeing I am 14 right now and i was like 8 but then when I was 9 I picked it up and played it i also enjoyed it but I think it was poorly written and done seeing some of the pokemon looked like demented clones and most of the pokemon like luvdisc looked really dumb

Um, the 3rd gen metagame is by far the best in my eyes. 2nd gen has too much stalling, and 1st I just never was really good at :P

4th gen's is terrible. 90% offense, destroys the fun of it.

3rd generation is very difficult to master. In fact, I'm not even close. this is what makes it so fun. There is the perfect mix of all kinds of tactics. The only thing that is annoyuing is how much power skarmlbiss has, but you should be able to counter them anyways ;)

    I don't like 3rd gen because:

    *There are only two pre-evos
    *There are no evos
    *No eons(eeveelutions)
    *Most legendarys look robotic

I like some pokemon of 3rd gen though.

wow i totaly disagree w/ u, i honestly dont care about pre-evos they are a waste of pkedex space, evos are too unoriginal and most of the evee evelootions stink...the lati twins loooks robotic????

    Ok. I hate 3rd gen. SkarmBliss is dominant, I despised not getting lots of STABd attacks for pokemon, like Gyarados who doesn't have Waterfall..In 3rd gen, it seemed like their typing was only for resistances and not for STAB..I prefer the offensive change because stall wars are BORING. I like it that toxic is almost never used >.> The only drawback about 4th gen in my eyes, is Choice Scarfers who are hella annoying if they aren't standard. CS-Gengar always gets me -_-;

I think it's nostalgia taken to an extreme in most cases.

Those of us who started with Red and Blue had fun with it, and had fond memories. G/S/C was welcome to us because it felt (and really was) as though it was a direct sequel to Red/Blue/Yellow. But when 3rd gen came around, it offered no connectivity to the games we started with it, and so we didn't really like it as much.

Myself, while I don't dislike the 3rd gen, it's probably my least favorite at this point. Don't get me wrong, I loved a lot of the pokemon from 3rd gen... but the games just didn't glue me like R/B/Y did.

It's my favourite generation it introduced double battles and i has strong pokemon.

In my opinion, it just had a really different theme to it.

There were some good things about it:
    Double battles legalized
    Pokémon Contests

But there were also some things that I didn't like:

The colour is nice, but it's too colourful for my tastes. Generation II had a decent amount of colour as is without having things too colourful. It felt like you were in some kind of paradise no matter where you were.

The character design appears to be younger and more kind-hearted than Generations I & II.
Personally I liked the intimidating looks of the protagonists; made it feel like you controlled a real somebody than a little kid.

The enemy team leader is not really much of an intimidating fellow. But more of a psychotic individual who happens to be some ambitious land loving fool.
It's a change, but I'd prefer the world domination plan that Team Rocket has.

The music was much different than the past. Due to the GameBoy Advance's capabilities, the music is less open to interpretation.
The battle music sets a theme of a small pastime battle rather than a showdown between two monsters. The route themes sound relaxing though, but it's not what I'm used to.

The battles are decent; a bit time consuming for me, I'd prefer the old simpler battle system but that's just me. Double battles was a nice concept but I'm no tactician, I just like the adventure and exploring aspects of it more than I do battling.

Gone are the simplicity, wide appeal and fun.
In its place are complexity, childish appeal and strategy.

The third generation just feels different.
I know they put a lot of effort into it creating a new battle system to play with & upgrading to the latest graphics, but nearly everything about Pokémon just doesn't feel the same anymore since they were released.

i have no problem with the III Gen frankly im glad pokemon made it that far and further the only porblem i had with it was the double battles were a little long the advnetures part was still there seeing new places and new pokemon so i was glad that they cept to the core game play atleast to some extent so those are the only cons i have towards it overall pretty good game from having to live up to the creativity of Gen I which nothing will ever be as good as and Gen II which was the game first with a whole new roster of catchable Pokemon. meaing nothin will ever be that good again but we can hope that Gen V will be a little bit more creative with the pokemon.

Ok. I hate 3rd gen. SkarmBliss is dominant,

    Get a counter.

I despised not getting lots of STABd attacks for pokemon, like Gyarados who doesn't have Waterfall..

    HP flying comes to mind.

In 3rd gen, it seemed like their typing was only for resistances and not for STAB..I prefer the offensive change because stall wars are BORING.

Stall wars are great. you hardly get them in ADV, you NEVER get them in D/P.

I like it that toxic is almost never used >.>

    Because it's a sucky move.

    The only drawback about 4th gen in my eyes, is Choice Scarfers who are hella annoying if they aren't standard. CS-Gengar always gets me -_-;

Which brings up why 4th gen ultimately fails as a metagame-it is 90% Offense. they've added the utterly broken specsmence, broken sandstorm 9yeah, regirock got A LOT better). sad part is that that is one of the only changes the defensive side of battles.

I personally think all pokemon having one or even two powerful STAB attacks id total overkill. you need about 4 walls at the very least to be able to wall everything in D/P, and you need more offense. Let's not forget nasty plot Azelf which is also basically broken.

What else? electivire, improved CBmence and CBcross, choice scarf attackers like medicham, specs Zam and gengar, specsmence...you simply can't stop all of those pokemon. I actually ran an all sweeper team awhile ago and it almost never lost. That's how offense-orriented the metagame is, which ultimately ruins it.
