Where is Iceland?

Yeah, i don't like those bands either, but Bjork has some nice songs. And the language it no. 1 on 10 top difficult languages indeed. And yeah i'll add some pictures.

Jolene, i doubt it will be done and if i know her personality right, she wouldn't like it either, she's a little hippie :)

Haowakeorden thanks for the support and the crisis, well it seems that were recovering slowly, the Icelandic krona is strengthening even though it's just little it's something.

Iceland is an interesting country in my opinion, and that is a good thing.

First of all the geologic history (and future) of Iceland is fascinating. A small volcanic island, half of it is on the European continent, half is on the North American continent. It sits right on top of the mid-Atlantic Ridge, which is the source of its volcanism. It is constantly expanding due to plate tectonics and volcanism.

The name is interesting. Iceland. It's green (technically speaking, due to the volcanism.) While Greenland is ice.

The politics are interesting. First openly gay major political leader (Prime Minister) of a country (that I know of.) A few years back..I think in 2008 the entire country basically collapsed and had to start over.

The language is very complicated and wonderful. I love Scandinavian languages.

The history is interesting. It was used as a half-way point (some settled there too) for vikings who were traveling from Northern Europe through the Atlantic to Greenland and Northern Canada.

Even the way it gets its power is interesting. The last time I checked, 81% of the country runs on completely renewable energy! :D

YAY ICELAND!

Glad you like Iceland Surmonter! Yeah your'e right about everything there, and yeah we run on renewable energy we heat up our water with steam. which we find in the earth. And rainwater.

And yeah Gymnotide he said it exactly like that XD

Haha I laughed so hard when I read that. But to be honest I've actually met people in the US that think we live in igloos in Canada as well, so I can relate. Pretty sure my cousin once convinces someone that the palais de glas was our parliament building.

I do actually know where Iceland is, but I did not know some of the things people have already mentioned.

If it wasn't so expensive for me to travel... I would like to be there, really. I'm sure, the landscape here is something special.

Here are some pictures if you would like to see some.

Aren't geysers supposed to be caused by heating of water deep undergound then it shooting up due to pressure? If so, why are those people so close? Geysers are very hot streams of water!

Maybe that one just had time to cool down before it reached the surface..

*sees pictures*

Now I want to live there. (Specially after seeing the aurora picture).

The autumn picture was just beautiful. I live far enough north where I see the aurora borealis once every few years..

I live in Costa Rica so I can't watch auroras and there are not geysers or autumn (we only have summer and winter).

EDIT: And there is no snow so it's a very rainy winter.

Well the people aren't standing the way it's blowing, and when the water reaches the air and immediately cools down.

And yeah iceland is beautiful.

Winds often change directions though.

My final conclusion is that they're not very smart.

Well, you're right in that geysers are very hot, since they're essentially columns of boiling water. It's also true that some thermal energy is lost as the geyser erupts from the ground, but for the most part, geysers are just mobile hot springs.

Maybe they were standing near a "cold water" geyser. Those kinds of geysers aren't "real" ones in that they are powered by carbon dioxide rather than steam and they don't necessarily have to be hot in order to erupt. Just a guess.

I am pretty sure I see steam where the water has already hit the ground. Either that or it's just polverized water particles from the pressure of the carbon dioxide.

Also, cold water geysers can occur when ice is creating large amounts of pressure upon an underground or..technically under-ice reservoir..but that is what happens on glaciers..not land..

You are right surmonter, they aren't very smart though, but that isn't THE Geysir, THE Geysir is much bigger this is Strokkur he's smaller then Geysir.

And Gymnotide all these Geysers are real.
