[Discussion] Where to begin in building a game...

Over the years, I have tried to build a game in the vein of Dragon Quest/early Final Fantasy using Pokemon characters, to various degrees of completion. But now I want to attempt building a game set in the ancient Pokemon world (something in the vein of Legends/Conquest), and I'm realizing that RPG Maker VX Ace (what I've used to make games before) isn't going to work for what I want to make.

So my question, to start:

--Is a game like this possible using Essentials/RPG Maker VX Ace?
--If not, what kind of engine would work best?

Hello developer, first of all Essentials is not a good option if you want to do something similar to Conquest, since it is more focused on the development of classic mainline games. Now talking about VX Ace, I think that with a little effort and a lot of programming you can achieve your Conquest style game.

Talking about other engines if this one doesn't usually work, you can use the beloved Unity and Godot, but I don't know if there is a resource pack for this type of games, although a search in their respective asset stores would not hurt.
