First gen was pretty meh, but second gen wasn't all that bad. I personally lurved the fourth gen starters (except for chimchar, but piplup and turtwig make up for that monkeys fuglyness). And then, there's third gen. They were the first generation of games I played, but I still really disliked the starters.
