Actually I see Red as a "Bonus Boss", and these kind of bosses don't give any reward (other than the exp. points :D). But maybe here beating him will get you the National Dex or the ability to work with D/P/P in one or other way (trade, pal park, etc)

Like everyone in this entire thread has said, the reward is gaining a ton of experience through winning against Red. However, I would kinda like it if they would let us rebattle him after the first battle. ^^'

He deserves to be the hardest in any pokemon game ever. Not that hyper son of a rival child. I want the satisfactory of JUST beating him on the verge of my last pokemon in the red zone (pun intended?) with nothing but his Pikachu left. That's all I want and ask.

Rewards? Well I think the best reward for me would be that he finally talk to me... And that he would go to his home or stay at Mt. Silver for a aremacth since after that battle he suddenly dissapears o.O

I think, as said above, beating him is reward enough, but I think you should be able to battle him like, ever Friday or something. I'd like to keep battling him again, at least once a week. I would be good training for your Pokémon! :)

If they were to put in a new reward, I would say a new item or something useful of the sort.

Something like a protein. Those things are expensive and would be a great reward if you could beat him every Friday or so.
