Alright, so I have two of the first SPs, a cobalt and a black one, and a Gold and Silver game. I've had my Gold game going for several years now. I finished it wayyy back, then started collecting all of the pokemon so I could get a complete pokedex. Well, after awhile I forgot about it, and I finally found it again. The game still works fine and I need about 10 more to complete it. So I started a game on our old silver version, so I could get a Totodile for my Gold. But when I went to trade it, it wouldn't let me. I've tried as many things as I can think of, but it just doesn't work! Am I doing something wrong? This is what happens each time:

I talk to the cable center person at the exact same time on both of them.
I say yes, I would like to trade. Then it says "Please Wait", and only one of the games will come up with the thing about Saving the Game before trading... the other just sits there, waiting. Then after the first game is done saving, they wait awhile, and the game that didn't save says my friend is not ready, when clearly I am...

I've tried switching the games between the SPs, two different linking cables, I even used my sister's Gameboy Advance but nothing is working! I know I've traded before just fine, so why won't it let me this time? Are the games just too old anymore? Is it a glitch? Am I just crazy and this is only happening to me?

Even the time capsule doesn't work between Red and Gold or Silver. (and yes I've checked to make sure the pokemon are compatible between these two games)

This is really frustrating because I've worked really hard to try and complete my Gold game, and now I can't do anything. Any help?

    Thanks.

Probably the internal battery has run dry. Can you save normally? Because if you can, that's not normal at all.

I think i know your problem, how early are you in the game, trying to trade to Totodile? If i remember correctly, you cant trade before you return the egg to Elm, then visit Chrrygrove on your third time through. Try reaching this far in the game first, because when you return the egg, you get some Poké Balls, which enables your first catching option. This probably enables the trade function between G/S/C aswell, and then the Time Capsule is enabled later on, in Ecruteak i think.

Basicaly, carry on in Silver, untill you recieve the 5 (i think) Poké Balls from Elms Aide. then try trading in Cherrygrove.

feeder18, that's not the problem. As he notes, he is allowed to start trading, but he can't actually get to the room. If he hadn't gotten the Poke Balls yet, he would be told the Trade Center was closed/being repaired/being claimed by a foreign nation/etc, like in all the other games.

Btw, I have NO idea what's wrong with your game.

Make sure u have 3 or more pokemon on your team first before trading I think. ;)

I can save just fine on all the games I've tried. I have already caught about 15 pokemon on the Silver version that has the Totodile... It /might/ be the cables I'm using, but I've tried two different ones and one of them was brand new. :/

Hate to break it to you, but you need a GBC link cable to trade in older games. Same thing happened to me.

Yeah, use a GBC cable, not a GBA one. If you have a GBC cable, use it and then see what happens. If you don't, I am sure Gamestop will have one.

Well did you try a few glitches?
Sometimes glitches can mess parts of your game up.

To ask a similar question, I used to trade between RBY and GSC on my GBCs with a GameBoy Classic/GameBoy Color Link Cable (its got 4 ends, two for color, two for classic). When I tried to trade between RSE it wouldnt let me, so I bought a new cable, thinking the old one had broke.

Does this mean, that the new cable is GBA and the old one will still work only with GBC?
