So as the question says, why do bad things happen to good people? I don't know what to put here

Bad things happen to all people, some of which are good. That's really all there is to it imo. I don't see why you doing good deeds means other people's bad deeds can't affect you.

Well nobody ever said the world was going to be fair to everyone now, we all have to deal with a little bs at some point in our lives.

I think it seems like bad things happen to good people more because it seems crueler, and therefore it grabs our attention more. Bad things happening to bad people isn't as shocking.

It does happen to both, though.

I try to look at it as, to see how strong you are as a good person. Even though bad things may happen to you, are you just give up on being a good person, or will you overcome and continue to do kind things and keep on being a kind/good person?

That's just how life it. It's like how good things happen to bad people. There's no cosmic force out there going "since you are a 'good' person only good things will happen to you" and vice versa. Things just are. It doesn't take anything into account. Sometimes you'll have great luck, sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's somewhere in the middle. Doesn't matter the kind of person you are. *shrugs*

Because bad things happen to everyone, and good people are part of everyone. I think it's harder to cope with good people having bad things happen to them because they're good people, and because of that, it's like "Oh what did you do to deserve something like this?" Nothing. You did nothing to deserve it, just like that bad person over there didn't do anything to deserve winning the lottery. Like Sammi said, things just happen and just are.

I'm someone who doesn't like bad things happening to me (like everyone else), but I'm also someone who thinks that the bad things that happen to me are what shape and define me - much more than what the good things that happen to me do. They make me a better person, and stronger emotionally and mentally.

You get what you get, whether you asked for it or not. Things happen.

And you learn from bad things happening to you anyway. It's a new experience, whether you like it or not, and after that, you can learn from it, just like any other experience.

And yet I kinda agree with it. Existence is simply a lot of atoms banging off each other transferring energy = essentially randomness personified. Bad things and good things will happen to people equally randomly, and most of the bad things that will have the biggest impact - natural disasters, sudden illness, accidents - will be the ones that'll be least in our control. Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

Bad things happen to everyone; it isn't a matter of how you life your life.

Just because someone does good, doesn't mean they are immune to the harsh reality of the world we life in.

Bad things are everywhere. They happen totally at random, and don't differentiate between bad and good.

And I'd like to also say that some of the bad things that happen to good people are caused by some not-so-good people.

Why do good things happen to bad people?

It's just the way of life. No one is immune to the good or the bad things that happen to us in life. Sometimes the bad things that happen to us are the results of our own choices and actions we make, whether they were made with good intent or not, while at other times they are caused by completely natural means that are just out of our hands.

I'm on the same boat as Nick when it comes to the bad things that happen to good people; I'd like to think of myself as a good person, so whenever something bad happens to me in life I see it as a way of making myself a stronger person, or taking in that experience to define and shape the person I am to better myself in the future.

With that, rather than asking myself "Why do bad things happen to good people?" I leave myself asking, "What kind of person would I be today if I never once experienced anything bad in my life?"

Because it's just the way things work. Say two people are walking down the road, one is a saint, they do charity work, give to the poor and all that jazz. The other is a horrible person who likes to bully people and inflict pain on others for their own enjoyment. When a car comes speeding round the corner they have an equal chance of getting hit, based on their lifestyle that is, because fate doesn't give a tiny rats arse about if you are a good person or not.

Why do bad things happen to good people, you ask?

It is simply because good things don't happen to bad people. If good things do happen to mean people, the world will suddenly explode be unbalanced. That's why bad stuff happens to good people, because good people are willing to sacrifice so that the world shall stay in balance.

My sarcasm aside, let's take a look at reality. It's just the way it is. There's nothing you can do about it. Life has ups and downs that we can't control. It's no use trying. Sometimes, God gives us experiences that may possibly ruin our lives or teach us a lesson.
