Why do Pokemon always say their names?

Its supposed to be unique, a LOT of people who don't like Pokemon will know that all Pikachu says is "Pikachu" and that is what they wanted to achieve, I suppose, to make it memerable.

Yeah, the Japanese version is usually better but they can sometimes have weird voice too (I thought Turtwig's was hilarious - forgotten his Japanese name) and I was watching the Japanese DP episode with Abra and I thought his voice was pretty bad, too.

Turwig's japanese name is Naetoru.

I'd be freaked out if a pokemon talked to me. It'd be like meeting the Taco Bell Dog. Litterally

Chi: Yo Quero Taco Bell
Pikachu: Sorry, I don't understand spanish and i hate Taco Bell, I'm french.

I just Wtfed myself.

In their world, Pokemon are like animals in ours, they don't know human language (Exept Lucario, Meweoth, etc). It's like a dog; for example they can pretty much only bark or growl; same with pokemon. The only reason (in my opinion) that Meweoth and Lucario can talk is because in the shows/movies they come across a time when the writers ACUALLY need them to talk a human language for the event.

I like the way Treecko sounds in the Japanese anime. It sounds cool. In the english version, it sounds extremely cute.

Mewtwo and Lugia can talk using telepathy. (I don't know about Lucario)
Meowth learned how to talk the hard way. I guess that means Pokemon are able to talk like humans.
It would be weird to hear what a Grovyle would sound like speaking english. o_o

~~~
Maybe the researchers didn't know what to name each Pokemon, so they named them after the sounds they made.
Its part of pokemons character, I dont think Id watch it if they didnt talk like that
That's my threy they named them after the sounds they made.
I was watching episode 3 season 1 and Caterpie and Pikachu had a convo all it was, was PIKA PIKA *Some Noise Caterpie Makes* i think they should put subtitles underneath the Pokemon when they are talking
I never said Pokemon should talk english, I said they should talk like they do in the games.
I've always thought they should sound like animals. Or more so at least. Their game sounds are as alike to "natural" animalish sounds as the gaming devices could do.
But I guess children find it funnier with "speaking" pokémon. Name-saying pokémon.
I was watching the episode with electric in it te day of the marathon and they sound like they have no nose and it really annoyed me because they were really cute but had the uggliest voice
They all say their name because unlike Meowth (and the legendarys who magically CAN speak ((or most of them anyway)), they don't use all their brain powers to "Learn the Human Language". That's one of the reason's Meowth couldn't learn Payday is 'cause of the amount of apparent brain power that it took to learn Human.
you know, the Mystery Dungeon: Time & Darkness anime special should be released in America pretty soon. In the meantime, you can hear one speaking Japanese if you find said special right now.
This has never really made sence to me. In Red and Blue, Pokemon just sounded like real animals. But for some really stupid reason when the anime started they decided to make them say their names all the time. WHY?! Just WHY?! It sounds so STUPID! Do you know how annoying it is when all you can hear throughout pretty much the whole show is: "PIKA PIKA PIKA PIKA" and "CORPHISH CORPHISH CORPHISH COR" and whatever other retarded noises Pokemon make in the anime. Don't the guys who make the anime realise how ANNOYING it sounds?!
Anyone agree with me?
In the games they made noises called cries and they were just random noises. i don't get why they didn't put those noises in the Anime. Maybe it was becase they couldent get those noises i don't know but i like how corphish says his name
Nooo...can you imagine Jynx? *shivers* But Staraptor's would be cool. But a lot of them would sound kind of weird because they don't really fit.
Unlike their japanese counterpart, the way pokemon growls in the english version is totally unnatural and sounds really dumb.
say, does anyone know where I can download rips of all the game cries? And maybe the Stadium 2 versions for the first 251 as well?
I like them saying their names, its cute =] and that's prob why i know all the pokemons names.
