Jeez, I feel so helpful today... That's because in a trade thread, you can make tons of post, especially when you run a large trade shop. Then, if someone wants to get their post count up real high, all they have to do is make a big old trade thread, and stack up the post count. There are some perks to having a high post count, you know...
The reason why post counts aren't considered in total posts for the Wi-Fi Center and other specific boards is because it isn't fair that they would gain a +1 for something such as "I'll give you Butterfree for your Beautifly," which uses little effort if any while others in other areas put in thought and effort into their posts. Which is basically why it isn't considered when posting there, and if I remember correctly, I believe it was Matthew who had said this once before.
As for post counts itself, there isn't really much benefit in having a higher amount than someone else. If anything, you get 15 to post up images and links, you need I believe at least 150 posts to make certain claims, and after 5000 you have access to blogs. Other than that, there isn't much benefit to have a high post number. It's just what it is. Which is, a number.
