Why is Mandibuzz so popular?

Mandibuzz was in RU last time. I remember it learned Whirlwind by level, Roost by breeding and by B2/W2 there was Foul Play as a tutor move. Now in Gen VI it's surprisingly in the OU tier. I just wonder how she became so popular? Is it just the new shift of Pokemon or something else I'm missing?

Mandibuzz loves the buffed Defog and Knock Off, allowing it to be a hazard clearer or a nuisance that removes items. The Steel nerf also helped it not be walled by said type anymore; said nerf also made Mandibuzz the ideal choice for dealing with the many Darks and Ghosts running around.

One of Mandibuzz's main utility is being a very bulky Defog user from what I understand, which helps teams get rid of Stealth Rock and Sticky Web.

It's really nice to see such an underused Pokemon rising through the ranks without relying on a Mega Evolution.

So Defog, Knock Off, and either Whirlwind, Roost or Foul Play makes a good set? I see that...

It is. I like your point. Another Pokemon that might be worth talking about is Clefable. Was RU last time, now OU because of it's new Fairy typing and improved Special Attack. As for Jolteon, he's dragged right down to NU.
