Why pikachu so strong?

I think on the very first episode, when Pikachu was struck by lightning, you know how it drastically superpowered Pikachu's Thundershock attack? Well, it's possible that it was a permanent boost.

To awser your title question

1. He has been trained well

2. Pikachu is at level 100

3. The writers of the anime wanted Pikachu to have cool attacks

Not to mention Pikachu is zapped by many powerful legendary pokes too like Zapdos, Zekrom and Thundurus too. Nah that feels a bit strange
