Was anyone else really disappointed after fighting one of the Rocket Executives? I was. I seriously cannot believe how weak they are. I mean, here they just had epic Team Galactic Commanders in Platinum, and then suddenly in HG/SS they make the Rocket Executives really weak.

First off, let's look at Proton's team, the first Rocket Executive you face in the game:
    Lv8 Zubat
    Lv12 Koffing

    WAAAAAAAAAAAT??? ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS?????

Now let's look at Mars' team, the first Galactic Commander you face in Platinum:
    Lv15 Zubat
Lv17 PURUGLY (dun dun dun duuuuun)

I could easily imagine Proton going up to Lv17 in the Slowpoke Well, after all, that's about where the levels are at that point, considering how Bugsy now tops out at Lv17, and your rival tops out at Lv18 in your second match. But Lv12? WAT?

Anyways, you get the point, but I don't know what GameFreak were smoking to even think of those teams. And please don't say something, "o but they were liek dat in g/s/c"

There's more I'd like to compare, but it's unnecessary, so here's a spoiler:
    Spoiler:

Anyways I'm also interested in what some of you guys think their teams should have been. For example, this is what I would have given one of them:

    Proton (Slowpoke Well):
    Lv15 Zubat
    Lv15 Spinarak
    Lv17 Gligar

My main point is that if they get their own VS Mugshot, then they should actually be a challenge, since I tore through them as if they were average Trainers...

it's note necessarily fair to compare them by levels. DPPt expects you to have pokemon in their 50's to compete in the league while HGSS only expects you to have pokemon in the 40's (mainly because of the overall lack of routes full of trainers to fight in Johto as compared to Sinnoh)

I personally found Archer to be a pretty hard fight, mainly because my pokemon were all stuck in the low 30's when I fought him and my Quagsire wasn't quite bulky enough to take a hit from that houndoom of his.

I do agree that Proton was a little underlevelled in the Slowpoke Well, as even in GSC, he had a lv.14 Koffing iirc, and since the rocket executives have generally been boosted in levels from the originals, he should have had a lv.16 or so Koffing.

Johto had a terrible level curve by itself. If I recall correctly, Route 45(the one right below Blackthorn City) didn't have any wild pokemon whose levels capped 30, save a few first form pokemon.

It was even worse in Generation 2. Jasmine in general had higher levels than Pryce, and Pryce was supposed to be the gym leader after Jasmine.

I know right they werent anything but a little teeny weeny obstacle in my path my starter on its own tore right through all of em.

I also was a little disappointed about TR, I was hoping that they would be more like Team Galactic in Platinum as stated above. Slowpoke Well Was certainly disappointing because all i used was my Quilava (If i recall in G/S everyone seemed harder to defeat).

That's because you don't have to go in order and things won't affect the plot I believe. I actually killed Pryce before realizing Jasmine was before him... And it didn't change my plot so...

I really hoped that when I heard these games were getting remade that the levels of the game were reviewed (I mean, surely they could've made it so Lance's Dragonites aren't all under Lv.55) and also that some of the characters - in paticular the Gym Leaders - had their rosters changed. I mean, the 5th Gym Leader (Chuck) should have at least 4 Pokémon, never mind 2. Even worse, he doesn't even have any Johto Pokémon on his team! Why he doesn't have Heracross and Hitmontop has always been beyond me. I also couldn't believe Jasmine still had her 2 rubbish Magnemites, why not a Skarmory or a Scizor or Forretress? The only roster they changed was that of Clair's (Removed one Dragonair for a Gyarados), I was pretty disappointed at that. At least they raised the Kanto Gym's levels, although this created a strange 10-level leap once you arrive in Kanto.

And yeah, I agree that the Rockets sucked. Instead of their boring boring Pokémon they should have interesting and badass things like Nidoking and Rhydon. Their battle theme is awesome though :P .

Sure, the level curve is crap.

However, don't you get satisfaction when you chase Team Rocket away using only a lv.5 Togepi? (Well, I levelled it to that before I went in, just for safety).

Yeah, they should've had more Weezing > Koffing...

I understand that Johto simply is a much smaller region and therefore has lower levels, BUT, the Rocket Executives are unnecessarily low. The only single Pokemon that wasn't out of place is Archer's Lv38 Houndoom.

For instance, keeping the levels low, and the Pokedex the same, this is what I would have made Archer's team:
    Lv35 Crobat
    Lv36 Weezing
    Lv37 Machamp
    LV37 Nidoking
    Lv39 Houndoom

I enjoyed Platinum so much more simply because of this. Gold was good back in the day when I was new to Pokemon; it wasn't too difficult whilst still being fun, but even if they had an option at the start of the game to choose if you want more of a challenge would have been good, instead of just having the patheticly low levels in the whole of Johto.

Same story with Kanto, the only time I had a decent battle was against Red, and I still won convincingly with Pokemon who were aboue level 60.
