I just wanted to know why is always that your race nearlly always effects what kind of music you play, i was just wandering why is always the african-american rappers and the "white" rock music players, It just is everywhere now. I've never seen one 'black' country singer, i've seen one 'white' rapper and never seen a black man playing some rock music, does anyone think that the black people should start plaing music that doesnt contain any bass in a song, or is it just natural to play music that is natural to your race?

No I do not think and never will think Black people should listen to something without Bass. Freedom of choice anyone?

Each to their own. I am a white person who listens to what you refer to as black music. Maybe because I play basketball a lot, meaning I have grown up around a lot of hip hop. But saying only black people listen to it is ridiculous. In the UK many white people listen to hip hop, rnb etc.

Yes I agree it is somewhat down to what culture your brought up around and what friends you make.

I actually don't know any other person here on PC who listens to Hip Hop or RnB like myself, but it doesn't make me 'gangsterized' if such a word exists.

But at my school (I'm at uni now) many of my best friends were huge rock and metal fans, but I chose to listen to RnB, Hip Hop etc, because funnily enough, I liked it! xD

No, the trends you mentioned pertaining to race and music are probably due to the fact that a high percentage of African Americans live in urban areas. Not to mention there are certain perceived societal norms that influence what kind of things certain people will be into. It's not like rap music is genetic or something.

There might be points where race is also a defining factor that separates certain cultures from others as much as other choices like religion, traditions, and nationality; basically whatever writes a culture in the first place. Looking at it this way you probably will find situations like these easier to digest.

For example, back in the 50's, in America, racism was still a big common situation in some sectors. This probably helped some subcultures to alienate and you might guess that most people probably preferred to socialize with others of their same race. So let's say this divides the poblation and each culture bears their own folklore; for black people there were some musical movements that gained more strength in that era-- namely rockabilly, blues, etc.

Finally, saying that race is a strong and the only direct influence in the music you listen/play becomes equivocal. The whole culture you live within always will play an important part of your formation.

and let's not forget, Rock music was INVENTED by black people. The term 'rock n roll' was originally a slang term used by black people to refer to sex. Now sure, the blueslike rock n roll that they invented isn't the same as what we listen to now, but it spawned the modern era of rock

Dude...black people invented rock and roll. White people invented...bluegrass...

Anyway, to my point...

It's not a race thing, it's a culture thing. People grow up around types of music, they tend to like it. Or hate it, in my case. Like me, the guy that has a place in his heart for Parliament and funk...in the racist South?

I don't listen to country, so I haven't seen a black country singer no. But as for the others...

People should be smart enough to decide what sorts of music they like themselves, instead of letting their peers or their background affect their music taste.

(Just for the record, I'm Asian and I listen to rock, metal, RnB, rap, funk and jazz. I know, I'm awesome. xD)
