I just wanted to know other people's thoughts on Max, May's little brother. Why add him? All he does in my eyes is add really annoying puns to the show like Brock use to. Maybe thats it? But I don't see May beating him with a frying pan or anything else like Misty used to lol. Also, is he supposed to reflect the little geeky kid in the game who tells you Prof. Birch is in trouble?

For me, I think Max is a real cutie. Sometimes he can be a smart alec though.
I think the situations between May and Max are quite amusing.

As for relflecting the little kid in the game, well, he looks like him. lol
And everytime you talk to him, "Are you going to catch Pokemon? Good luck!"
That is annoying! It's like he saying catching pokemon is hard!

Well, to be honest, Max is my favorite male character on Pokemon. (Many people think he is boring, well I guess that's their opinion)

I always wondered why Max was there... And WHY does the best Legendary go w/ MAX?!?! Max is weird...

Every character is made as a purpose to the adventure. Brock takes care of the food, ash defends, and the add on girl is going because of some incident that happens. (may always wanted to travel and ash destroyed misty's bike). Max is the smart character, as tracy was. He is there becuase the job of misty was split between may and max. Max does the ear thing and may is the girl. I hope this helps!

Agree with the girl with the long name and Skitty!!!!

Also now that Ash has became mature as in the AG somebody has to take care or the little kid part of the show. I mean you rarely see Ash play with pokemon anymore like he use too and now it is Max's job to play with the pokemon. He took the place as Ash's little kid spirit.

Yeah Max has a purpose from being a smart alec and pulls Brock's ear.

Since the replacement of Misty with May removed the comic foil between Misty and Ash, a fourth character was needed that, if nothing else, had some modicum of sensibility so that many tried-and-true points of humor that existed before AG would not be lost. Hence, Max comes into the picture.

Furthermore, since May is so incomplete on her own as a character, Max is used to fill the gap because his personal attachments to her provide for unique character interaction that previously could not have existed in the show. I tend to consider May and Max as two halves of one character, albeit still greatly underdeveloped and one-dimensional.

^^ Well how detailed. Thanks for that feedback. As for two halves of the same character, their obviously Misty's two halves because what is Pokemon without Misty? =P

I agree with Chairman Kaga on that. Max helps the series though people find him annoying most of the time, can you think of the show without him? It's just like Misty with her Psyduck. Act different but somehow seems to work thogether.

Yeah. I also agree with Chairman Kaga. May and Max just go together. What more can that be said. They aer never really seperated even after Ash and AG co left. Max came back first but May was soon to follow.

I think Max is actually very important to the show, even though he doesn't look it. Like already stated, he is like a half of May.

May and Max are like a Manzia performance. May being the Boke and Max being the Tsukkomi. They go hand in hand together, and though they may be able to do it alone, it just isn't as fun and the jokes don't come through well enough I think. Max needs to be there to pull the joke through when May can't do it herself.

May's personality can only take her so far, but its only the characters around May that make her who she is, and Max has a main role in fleshing out May's character, since she is pretty one-demensional by herself like Chairman Kaga had pointed out. Max is the exact same way. His character is nothing without his sister there to watch over him.

Aside from May and Max being there to replace Misty, May and Max are also there to replace the part of Ash that deminishing as of recently. The childish, ignorant aspect.

Like already stated, now that Ash is more mature there needed to be a character who was inexperienced/ignorant... May and Max fit that role. Max is there to be a kid. Smart or not, he is still a kid and does kid-like things, which this show needs, since it is a kids show.

.... Or it could just be that the creators thought the show needed more loli- shota characters since Ash was getting more mature, and Misty was gone.

Do they say how old Max is? I'd say 8 or 9 right, since he said he wants to be a trainer but can't yet. Ash is 14 in this series I believe as for Brock..what..16 or 17? And team rocket are in their 20's O.o.

I think of Team Rocket as ageless... I don't think they'll ever get past the age they started at. XD

When Max first came on, I was really, REALLY annoyed by him. He acted as if he knew everything, and he had that kind of attitude that bugged me. Not to mention he is a little kid, and little kids cry and whine. Which is annoying.

However, over time, I came to appreciate Max. He is the person that can comment on a situation in such a way that only a child can. I very much agree that he helps to define May, and I also think that he makes up for some things that Ash has lost over time (which I really miss by the way :<). He does still annoy me when he gets all know-it-allish, but this is only once in a while now. I really adore the sibling relationship scenes with May and him.

As for what Dark-Umbreon said regarding the sixth movie... you have to look at Jirachi itself for that answer. Jirachi is a psychic pokemon, and young children have always been regarded as much more in-tune with supernatural occurences and psychic abilities in general. Also, Jirachi was a pokemon that enjoyed playing in a way that a child plays. I don't see it playing around like that with Brock or May. Ash maybe, but, as stated before, he's gotten a bit too stuffy for that. Max was the perfect canidate to have Jirachi mentally connect with. And I thought they were rather cute together. ^-^

    I've never thought much of Max. but he is kind of adorable... ^^;
I can't say that I'd miss him if he were to leave the show....but there would definatly be something missing without him... because his personality, when he actually gets useful parts in episodes, really contributes alot.

I don't really mind Max, he can sometimes be a know it all, but i don't really care. Every adventuring group needs a smart guy/girl and Max fills that spot.

    Boring?
    Eh. I guess so... sometimes...
but as far as boring characters go...I've seen worse.

Max is a good character in the series, in my opinion.
He has his own personality, and really helps out the gang when things get out of the ordinary....sometimes he can be a bit annoying, but I still like him...it wouldnt be a major loss if he left...but I still think he is a good character.
