Why would anyone disable Reputation?

I wonder this for a few reasons...
    1. Disabling Reputation does not stop it's effects, all it does is it makes it invisible, if you turn it back on, any reputation you get will be seen...
    2. Why wouldn't you wanna see what people think about your posts?

Post whether you keep it on, and why, or if it is off, why you have it off!

I have mine on, cause I like criticism about posts, and if someone has a problem with my post, I like to know what it is, so I won't do it again.

I disabled it because I got tired of the hype surrounding it and because I don't really care about it.

Dunno whether to keep this here or in Q&F. *shrugs* I'll leave it here. Ugh, another rep thread though?

I often tell people who can't handle getting/seeing bad rep given to them that they should disable it because it doesn't matter. It stops notifications and then, should they have a red bar, they don't have to be reminded of it with every post. I had a few people backlash with "well, of course you can say that rep doesn't matter--you have lots of it!" so I disabled it to prove it means nothing in the long run and to look less like a hypocrite when I suggest that. I prefer the comments over the blocks anyway so it's not a big deal to not have some blocks in my posts. Disabling rep from appearing in your postbit doesn't disable the system entirely--you can still give and receive rep and check your comments in the CP after all.

Not enough people know how to use rep well anyway so even if one does have their rep displayed, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a perfect gauge of the quality of that person's posts.

Yeah, it bothers me too when people don't know how to use the reputation system correctly. I only keep it on cause it reminds me I am a good person here on PC. I give reputation where it is deserved, and nothing more. ^__^

I have mine disabled because I got neg repped a couple times for reasons that I didn't think were right. So rather then getting mad I just decided to disable it so I wouldn't know when I got rep. I know that I can still get rep and look at it, but somehow its less annoying when its disabled.

Because it's a pain in the ass to deal with.

I already know that I'm a good member and contribute to the community. I don't really need other people to share their opinions of my posts. I don't post to please them, after all. Of course, sometimes I go over the deep end and put a little bit too much bluntness in matters such as these, but it's only my honest opinion.

i only got 1 rep before and it was a good one and not a pointless one :)
    see
"It's nice to see you're taking this serious and following other's advice! You're already getting better! Take it all in, sparingly."

Because people won't stop talking about it, and act like it's the most important thing on this forum. :/

I remember reading a post, saying that someone's rep points were more important than their posts, it caused me to stop reading, and go:

    . . . (°⌂°")

I never see any problem with it, but I guess other people think it's useless. I keep mine on because it at least reminds me a bit that people are reading my posts :3.

EXACTLY, lol. But in reality, nothing matters but kind curious words. So long as posts are like that, I am good.

I disabled reputation loooong ago. I really don't care for it, or about it. It's not like reputation is the main reason I come on PC anyway. :/

Rep has caused so many disputes in the past here on PC. I find that generally:
    A. most people cannot take criticism...at all.
    B. People give negative rep for lulz. :/

Since people judge others on rep, if you antagonize someone with higher rep (and by extension their friends with high rep), if you disagree with someone who has a high rating, they can destroy you with a press of a button. It's kind of like a social latter with many members here. I mean it seems like a good idea to keep it off so you are judged on who you are rather than some little squares that are either red or green.

Anyway, I keep mine enabled because I don't really care what people think of me.I mean sure I would prefer if people liked me, but not everyone can like you or what you stand for, you know?

I keep mine enabled because I've got nothing to hide. I'm a bluntly truthful person and if someone likes my posts, I like to see their feedback. If someone doesn't like my posts, I like to see their feedback and have a good laugh. The amount of green I have is indicative of how I'm generally judged as a member around here, and as a student of sociology, that figure kinda interestes me. :P

    1. [jq]Disabling Reputation does not stop it's effects, all it does is it makes it invisible, if you turn it back on, any reputation you get will be seen...[/jq]Because if you have a low rep you are a n00b and if you have high rep its just a spam fest of oh lulz you have high repz.
    2. [jq]Why wouldn't you wanna see what people think about your posts?[/jq]You fail haha...no and many more examples of why its disable. People instead of giving proper critisism make stupid random comments and think its okay. No. If you find someones post bad tell em how it can be improved but if you find it okay give at least a small reason why.

    I'm guessing...

It could be because that person doesn't like being judged or treated differently by their rep, good or bad.
Or for people who have high rep, they want to show that they're really just like every other member for all the people that judge rep as 'popularity points'.

You make a good point, lol.
