Wi-Fi and router-related help

I have a quick question regarding connecting the DS to Wi-Fi
I just found out the college I'm going to has two options for Wi-Fi. One through a "secure" network which requires a username and a password. The other is an unsecured network that redirects you to a page (through a web browser) where you type in a password, similar to how one would connect to certain hotel Wi-Fi connections.
Is it possible to get my DS to connect to these networks? I have a the original DS and may soon get a 3DS.

If not, are there any possible alternatives to connecting the DS to Wi-Fi?
 
ok so i have a netgear router and my ds is telling me the connection isnt compatable, i thought these routers could work for white and black versions?
 
Is there any way to connect to a WAP router without changing it to WEP?

But if I have to thats okay because I live next to old ladies :D

Yes there is, but it depends on what kind of device you're trying to hook up. Such as with a Nintendo DS, it would have to be a DSi or a DSi XL or a 3DS in order to connect to a WPA access point.
 
Yeah, you'd have to either change your internet to WEP, get a DSi/DSiXL/3DS, or use someone else's internet in that case.
 
I've been having this really wired issue with my wireless routers. It starts out with my cell phone not connecting to the router when I got home. I thought it was my phone, but it connects to outer WiFi points with no problem, and it won't connect to the network even standing beside the router.

From there if a computer or other object in the house disconnects from the network, it won't re connect. I though the DHCP server on the router was messing up, I'm still not sure on this. I can static IP something and it will work for a little while before disconnecting again.

This problem happens with two different routers in the same location (one messed up so I switched them. Still same problem) every once in a while everything looses signal completely. Also at times random websites take 10+ seconds to load then everything seems to work okay, except downloads are slow 30-300KB/s instead of 600-700KB/s.

I'm pretty sure it's not my modem. I don't think it's either router because they both work okay. I think it's interference, but I'm not even sure how to check that. Both routers use WPA2 encryption. My bedroom is only about 30 feet from the router (through two walls). My laptop also in the same room as the phone usually doesn't have any issues, but once in a great while it does. The desktop computer (that uses WiFi) about 4 feet from the router only messed up when everything slows down, or connection goes completely derp side up. Any Ideas? (may or may not be related, but we have been having a lot of random and sporadic signal losses for out satellite TV. We get a pop up window that says "Complete signal loss" it usually automatically goes off in 1-3 seconds)

I would appreciate some input, I am about to drill some holes in the floor and run cat 5 cable across the house.
 
You can use a wireless network scanner to see what channels are causing interference in that spot.

Remember that wireless is over radio waves, so something in that area could be generating radio waves at the same frequency, or you could have created a dead spot between the two routers because their wireless signals are using the same channel and frequency.
 
Hey guys. So recently I bought a Nintendo 3ds. I used to play my pokemon games on my DS Lite but seeing as my internet router had a WPA key I wasn't able to go online. Now I have connected my 3DS to the router and the internet runs fine in the browser for the console but then when I go into pokemon heart gold and go to the GTS in Goldenrod City and go to the woman at the top of the room and save my game when I try to connect i get this message.
"No compatible access point in range.
Check you connection settings and try again.
For help visit support.nintendo.com
Error Code: 51099"
Does anyone know any way I can fix this?

I assume you only have a WPA key? The three connection settings used are for games that support WPA (3DS and DSi games). When you tap Internet Settings, there's an option called "Nintends DS Settings" where you can set up connections for older DS titles like Pokémon Heart Gold, Diamond and whatnot. Be aware, however, that it won't support WPA or any variation of it- only WEP and unprotected access points will work.

So no matter what my router will never be able to support Pokemon games? :(
 
Is the soulsilver GTS down permanently? I have my router set to WEP (using my 3DS), and it still gets an error message. I still have full bars when using Wifi on my White version.
 
Having problems reconnecting my DS to Wi-Fi.

How do we set our router so that it picks up my signal for my DS? The other day our network went down while we were in town and we came home and the internet was completely down. We called our service provider and they got our computers back online but the numbers for each computer changed. Now the router will not allow my DS to connect to Wi-Fi at all. We have done all we can that we can that we can think of and the router has the previous settings now that it had before the network went down and now for some reason the DS will not connect to Wi-Fi.

When I try to connect all that happens is it will show bars then it will disconnect and show this error:

You are unable to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.
Please check your connection settings and Try again.

Error code: 52100.

I don't know what to do so it will connect to Wi-Fi. If someone can help with this I would be greatly appreciated for the help. My router is a D-Link Router but I don't know what to do to fix this problem.

Also my range of bars is only 1 bar when I connect and I don't know how to fix that so it shows all 3 bars. Thanks guys.

See what happened is our server reassigned new DNS numbers to each computer and ever since those were changed the router has not been able to connect to Wi-Fi. All it does is show bars when I try to connect then it disconnects and I get the above error.:)
 
I know what the problem is but the thing is none of us know what to change on the router so it will open up the Wi-Fi. That's the main problem. If we make a mistake we are basically toast because we don't know what we should change on the router without messing up the internet itself. If you have a solution to help us out that is what we are looking for. Thanks XD.:)
 
Dorm Wifi Issues

Hey,

So I live in a dorm, and I have tried over and over to get my DS light to connect to the wifi here, but it won't... :/

There are two wifi's, one is username and password protected, and the other requires you to type on an email to use it.

Is there any way I can connect to this wifi??

Talk to your school about it. My college has a username/password system that isn't workable with my old DS, but when asked they have a particular way that you can register game systems to make them work. Every college I've seen had something similar so I'm betting yours does too.
 
What Toujours said might work, but not likely. Your best bet would be to go to a coffee shop and use their free WiFi.

The DS does not have a browser, so it can't go to the page where you type in your email, or the username and password. It is highly unlikely that your school would be willing to restructure their WiFi protection system because you want to connect your Nintendo DS.

No, that's not how it works at all. The schools have certain ways of determining what's a computer and what's not. For example, to make mine work I had to go to a certain website that the IT people set up, enter my DS' mac address and a name for it, and they recognized it and it could connect to the internet.

My sister's college is the same way, as is my best friend's college - they all have internet designed so a DS can't log on, but if you talk to the IT people they have a way to get around it designed for game systems.
