I mean, if she likes contests, they're just BATTLES W/ A FREAKING TIME LIMIT, so I don't see why she likes contests and not battles.

she haves potential ^^ so yeah

she has no potential i hate her and she is weak oh yeah one more thing they dumped misty for her wich is evil

Hasn`t your mum ever said"If you`ve got nothing nice to say don`t say it."
Well back on the topic.I really don`t think May will ever do regular battles.
She`s the only really main chacrecter who dosen`t and that makes her stand out.
Even though she might be a good trainer.

You're entitled to your opinion, but this is a bit off topic.

People, before this gets out of hand, I should tell you a bit about the facts of life. Japan has been using the 'male' stereotype for years and years. An example would be when you play an RPG. The male lead is almost ALWAYS the hero with the huge sword, and the female is usually the one with a dagger, or more likely, a staff, making her a healer or a magic user.

Since Pokemon has neither of these, Japan had to find some use for their female characters. As a result, Misty becomes a 'mother' to Togepi, and May becomes a coordinator, using Pokemon in a setting more reminiscient of a talent show than a battle arena. Now, Togepi is gone (Misty Special) and the contests are over (in the Japanese episodes).

If May stays, there will be more contests. If she leaves, either another female character will join, and they'll invent some new way to emphasize the male sterotype, or Misty will return. If Misty returns, she'll either find a new Pokemon to 'mother', Togetic will come back, or they'll invent a new Pokemon Profession (she'll have all the healing items).

And this isn't really a new thing either. Japan has been doing this for years.

Sailor Moon: Tuxedo Kamen (who's the only male lead) comes to the rescue of the Senshi in almost EVERY episode.

Cardcaptors: Sakura is always in need of Li's assistance.

Tenchi Muyo: Either Ayeka, Ryoko, or Sasami, despite how awesomely powerful they are, always end up needing to be rescued by Tenchi.

I don't agree with this, but unfortunately, I don't foresee Japan stopping this trend any time soon. It's a sad, but true fact people.

Of course, if I had MY way, one of the female leads in Pokemon would turn out to be some sort of Goddess and acquire tremendous powers.

oh theres one thing i forgot her beutifly is the ONLY pokemon she trains wich works in contest but not battles

You forgot one. She uses Skitty in contests as well. That's a bit later though...

    Huh.

Well, from what Pok?mon she does currently have, she has the potential of becoming a skilled Pok?mon Trainer. A good one at that. Of course, like SBaby said, because of the stereotype, May's most likely gonna stay a Pok?mon Coordinator.

Just to point this out, contest battles are supposed to be like normal battles, except the Pok?mon must execute the attacks gracefully, gaining the judges' attention. In turn, Pok?mon must avoid getting knocked out gracefully as well. However, because of trying their best of looking pretty in front of the camera, the Pok?mon's priority becomes that, and not winning the battle. Of course, a standard Pok?mon battle can quickly become rather ugly. I guess you could say that contest battles are more controlled then regular battles...

Ugh.. You have NO idea how much the rescuing thing irritates me in Sailor Moon .. but I'll try stay on topic

I think she would do well either way... I'm not sure the writers will have her battle like Ash though..

I think she's a good battler. Contest Battles are like Regular battles ya know. May does have potential. And pokedude55, don't do character bashing, it'll hurt other people's feelings towards her >_O

What? Evil to dump a character that did absolutely NOTHING for a couple hundred episodes for a character that is developing nearly every episode and actually DOES SOMETHING besides stand around and give advice? Jesus. I thought everyone realized by now that Haruka's definately more entertaining than Kasumi was considering she actually does something rather than become a new piece of background like Kasumi did.

Way to not know she uses ALL of her Pok?mon for her Contests.

As for regular battles, she does take part in them from time to time (such as the double battle episode) and I don't see why people think she's only there for the Contests.

I totally agree with what Raven says here, Kasumi was just boring and a little too mean to Ash all the time, whereas Haruka does alot of stuff (Pokemon Contests), which is alot more entertaining then a girl that thinks she is a know it all.

I think the only Pokemon that she hasn't used in a contest yet is her Gonbe because she really hasn't had much of a chance.

Well in my oppinion I think she is going to stick to contests but she does have the potential to do proper battles. You have to remember she is a rookie that has only just started like Ash and Kanto which is why she isn't a really good battler like Satoshi.

I really want the to keep Haruka, she is alot more fun to have around in the anime than Kasumi.

    Umm,
-_-, You are entitled to your opinion, But first of all, dont go blaming May for Misty's disappearence in the series, The producers did what they did, so you shouldnt go hating May for that. It is not like May kicked Misty out or anything, besides You are off topic, all we asked you to do is whether you think May will battle, NOT if you hate her. You are going to upset many May fan's who really like her when they view this thread. If you have nothin nice to say then dont say anythin at all ><
    *little ones these days* *coughs*

    ANYWAYZZZ XD,,
I truly think that May has the potential to battle, I mean she already battles in her contests, and not to mention she has a good set of pokemon, so I say yes she can battle. Hey you never know what can happen she might battle later in the series ^^ Thats just my opinion LOL ^0^
    Cya ~Mina~

~I do agree with angelmina that was very rude to say about may and guess what i am one of mays fans oh well i think she will have potential to battle so yeah~
By the way this thread is very umm.. kool :P
The picture well the last one is may and ash very funny^_^

I think may will battle sooner or later but she might not becuase I guess she loves doign contest!:):(

I hope she starts battleing cause it could help her pokemon get stronger for contests.

And that's disgusting. IT REALLY SUCKS, IMO. Pokemon were meant ONLY as battle minions, not stupid, lame-butt, so-luvy-duvy-that-I-wanna-puke-my-guts-out type creatures.

In their world, they're living creatures. Not battling machines. That's the kind of attitude the Rocket Gang has. ;\
