It seems that all of the arrogant rivals eventually 'learn the error of their ways' and become as big a softy as the main character. :P

So, I guess Shinji is doomed to the same fate, huh? To become a Satoshi wannabe?

I reeeeeaaaaally hope not. But I bet it will happen. It'll probably be like it was with Gary, and he'll become all nice after Ash does something to best him, or he gets humbled by a fellow trainer. He still seemed to keep his arrogant attitude after Cynthia, but she is a Champion, after all. It'll probably be in the Sinnoh league that he calms down.

The answer is yes, and I won't like it. I liked Gary a lot before. Writing "Gary was here, Ash was a loser," accidentally knocking Ash out unconscious in that squirtle squad episode, the list goes on. Now he wears a flowing cloak, wants to become a pokeresearcher, is a lot more patient, and whatever. Wonder what happened to him.

Buck will tame him. With a whip. <3

What did he do after he got owned by Shirona? I was expecting him to be a softie after that ep.
    He was still the same
I honestly wonder if Shinji will be tamed. The writers have been pulling surprises on us to the point where Pokemon has been something it's been notorious for not being - unpredictable.

    So now anything could happen

Still, as much as I like Shinji as a bad-ass, I still think the anime is gonna let us down. Remember when Silver got decimated by Lance in Mahogany town? The next time you saw him at mt. moon, he wasn't our Silver anymore. Pretty big similarites there, eh?

I think he'll eventually become good, unfortunately. z_z The writers have a reputation for doing things like that.

I don't care if he's a little nicer. That sort of a change would be fine. It'll be when he's all "You did great, Ash!," or "Pokemon are our friends, blah blah blah," that I'll be upset. I will NOT stand for that from Shinji.

It's because they have to make it "kid friendly" like with Naruto instead of putting it on toonami or adult swim like it should be.

    Who said anything about Naruto?

It would uskc if Paul turn into the a good boy. We like bad boys! Bad boy qualities is what keeps us watching a complete jerk. But saince this is Pokemon, Paul will be joining Sliver at the Dragon's Den being a Goody Two-Shoes and brushing his Pokemon's hair.

Sadly, Beret's probably right. Dozens of characters in the Anime have suffered this fate. So it stands to reason that Shinji/Paul will eventually go down that path too.

The Anime's always predictable in that sense. It's like asking if Ash will win this League or not. You know he won't.

I don't think it'll be quite like that. But something will probably happen to make him 'learn his lesson'. Probably something to do with one of his Pokemon that he either has, or owned previously.

Since it's clear that losing battles doesn't faze him, a Legendary Pokemon or big-league Trainer wouldn't cut it for this.

I predict that he may even end up joining the main characters at some point. I looked ahead on Serebii and it seems the show's now hinting at that possibility. Of course, Pokemon does have a habit of not following through with their hints.

    I thik Shinji's doomed, too.

Ad as for Ash not winning the league comment, I think he will. Remember the Orage Islands tournament? There's a chance he might win.

One thing though. This isn't a filler League. Difference.

Of course, if they go old school with the League (aka Ash vs Paul in the last battle) then it's conceivable that he MIGHT. But the odds of that happening (and the series actually being TRUE to the games) are about as good as the odds of them using my Neo Destiny Fic as the plot base for the next season after D/P.
