As said above, it's safe to assume Gyms won't be a thing in Alola and the Island Challenges are the substitute for them, proving that Alola follows a very different culture than other regions.
If there's really gonna be more than 8 Trial Captains like almost everyone is so certain about, then it would be absurd if not a single one of them specialized in Dark-Types after all this time.
