In generation VII, Wimpod had a unique way of encountering it. It can only be found in the overworld in three places, and you need to chase after it in order to catch it. As you chase after the Wimpod, it will try to run into a hole. Obviously, if it goes back to hiding in its hole, you will not be able to encounter it, but leaving the area will have Wimpod respawn.
What did you think of this encounter type? I honestly liked how Wimpod is found and caught in these games. It makes it far more memorable that way.
