[Other] World Map Hacking Questions

Hello! After numerous fails at World Map editing in FR despite reading every tutorial I can find, I still have some questions that I realise I should probably have asked in the first place =P. At first I tried to take the noob's easy option of using the existing FR map tiles/colours and just trying to rearrange the tileset, but after seeing some of the awesome region maps other people have created it made me really want to have a proper shot at making it look great!

Sorry in advance if any of these questions are really stupid... still find it all very confusing.

1. I am aware that in NTME you have to use pallette 0 for the green-blue colours in the map and then 3 for like cities and towns and such. Does this mean we could use 32 colours instead of 16?

2. Linked to my reason for asking the first question, would it be possible to utilize different palettes for different tiles in your tileset? For example if you wanted say, the Kanto map to have green ground, then on a Sevii map have white ground for snow or something?

3. Do you absolutely have to include tiles for the map-close button and the switching map button?

4. If it turns out the buttons aren't completely needed, how does the game tell which map to show during gameplay? (displays kanto when in kanto etc). Does it need to be manually set in some way?

Thanks a bunch to anyone who can offer any help! =)

1. Palette 0 is grass/water/etc, palette 1 is cities and roads, palette 2 is the border, and palette 3 is the close/switch map buttons. So, you could theoretically have 64 colors without screwing things up.

2. The palettes are the same for all three maps, but if you use different palettes from those above, it could be possible (if annoying to setup).

3. No, you don't, although it may get messed up if they aren't the same and the map tries to load the switch map button.

4. I can't remember how, but I'm guessing it just reads all the maps and figures out which it is.
