This is the first map (pixel) I made for my game.

Hmm... It looks a bit too 'clean' in my opinion. It might be because of the shape, but I don't like the smooth transitions between the different shades of green. If you look at a real map, you can see the borders between the contours. In fact, you might want to try basing your style on an actual map (not a satellite photo), similar to this one. Basically, what I'm saying is don't use gradients.

The contrast between the light blue used for shallows near the coast and the dark blue of the ocean is too large; have a look at the shades of blue used in the D/P/Pt map. Also, the texture doesn't really look watery, and doesn't fit with the rest of the map. Try doing something similar to what you did with the land to the water; use light blue for shallow parts, and darker hues for the deeper ocean. Show some detail, too; maybe use an even darker shade to represent underwater chasms, and add a few extra small islands and shallow parts?

The reason im doing it that way is because i want to stay away from a basic map style.

Edit: This is what i was thinking about, CC anyone?

The one in the first post looks pretty good. The sea texture looks a lot better than the old one.
But it looks a bit flat now; maybe you should add a coast to the island, like you had in the old one. A white or light blue outline where the sea meets the land might look good, too.

    This anybetter?
