Worst Gaming Experiences

Maybe you spent your hard-earned money on a game that turned out to be a dud. Maybe the game glitched out on you and fried your game save. Maybe someone you played against online was blatantly cheating. Regardless of what happened, I'm sure we all have horrible stories involving games, and this is where you can share those stories and vent about them!

The number one for me... I was about 12-13, got into playing FFX. Loved the game, had a player's guide and dove deep into it, trying to do all the different side quests, unlocking the extra aeons, all that good stuff. For whatever reason every time I encountered a new save point I started a new save file. You start the game in Zanarkand, before being thrown into the future. By time you get close to the end of the game, you are back in Zanarkand again, only it's in ruins because it's in the future. The save file locations, however, both say 'Zanarkand'. At this point, I had created so many different save files that my memory card was running out of space. So, later on I got in there and started deleting the old saves. I started with the oldest, of course, where it said 'Zanarkand', and continued deleting them until at the last one. That's where my heart suddenly sunk, as I saw the amount of time logged in that last save file. It was under an hour, I had deleted the files from the wrong side! There was nothing I could do, I did at some point try playing through it again but my heart just wasn't in it. I was so close to completing the game, but never got to have that experience due to my own foolishness, lol.

So, what were some of the worst experiences you had with gaming?

    Good thread idea!

I can think of 2 off the top of my head.

The first was the time I spent and I mean literally all day playing the original Spider-Man 3 game when it first came out for the PS-2. I got like, 80% of the way through the whole game, only for it to crash. No big deal though, right? It auto-saved all my progress, didn't it? All those probably 10 hours playing that game should still be good? Nope. From scratch ba-by!

The second time was when I spent $40 bucks on that garbage 'official' remake of Metroid 2 for the 3DS. I've never wanted to refund a game more in my life,
too bad for me I bought the digital version lol.

There are plenty more, those are just the first 2 I thought of. I might post more in the future lol.

I actually didn't have one. Until this year that is.

Two words: Balan Wonderworld. I haven't dropped a video game I've played in at least ten years. Possible longer. Possibly ever.

This game is just... bad. Runs like shit, not how platformers work, collectibles are a nightmare and aren't how collectibles work, and just everything is so god damn bad. I couldn't get myself to finish it. That's how bad it truly was. I didn't want to believe everyone and what they were saying. I really didn't. Because, literally most of the time, my opinions on games are literally the exact opposite of the 'majority' opinion. But that just wasn't the case here. It really wasn't.

    Sad really.

But it's fine because karma finally bit the creator of this shit game and bit him hard. He's literally in prison now.

*insert meme here of 'And nothing of value was lost'*

Similar to Stringzzz, I had accidentally saved over save files that were far into the game before, though it was the Wii U virtual console copy of Fire Emblem Sacred Stones. I had 2 playthroughs going, 1 Eirika, 1 Ephraim. I was on chapter 14 Eirika, 15 Ephraim (the game has 20 chapters for each side, so very close to the end). I was struggling on a level, and remembered that the Wii U virtual console had a save state option, that I had forgotten about since I last used it in Chapter 2 when I was trying to make sure a weak character didn't immediately die. I go to use the save state button... Only realizing I had picked "LOAD" instead of "CREATE." So, I lost a lot of playtime with that. I just couldn't continue the game for years after that.

Though I guess in hindsight, it may have been better that way, as the next sad story, well.... I actually have a bad history of consoles my family owns going missing. My dad had 4 Nintendo 64s stolen, gave up some consoles in divorce/break up settlements (his philosophy is "Just give the girl everything so that there's no arguing..."), and, most recently, my Wii U got lost at some point, after I stopped using it because the game pad's motherboard was fried (yeah, my brother wasn't careful with it, and his labrador retriever chewed it.... The dog is fine, didn't get shocked or anything). I thought my family sent the console with the gamepad to get fixed, but it turned out it was only the gamepad, so somehow my Wii U and all my save data on it is gone. So, I guess I would have lost that Fire Emblem save data anyways...

It's not with the game itself, but in Renegade I still played pvp many years ago.
When I was still new I was mocked for being bad. I played for many hours to get better and then people obviously start calling you a cheater, because clearly they were so dang good at the game anyone beating them clearly is. Add a couple incompetent ingame moderators from the server I was playing on and things got ugly. I ducked out of pvp ever since.
