It's an Irish sport and probably the most skillful sport in the world. Anyways, after a brief period of silence in which I decided how I would explain the sport as easily as possible to the poor, unknowing man, I spoke and explained that the player was armed with a hurl, which was a piece of wood about the same shape as an executioner's axe, and it served practically the same purpose.
Yes, it was a horrible way to tell someone what the game of hurling was, but it was right in a blunt manner and it was quite funny as well, similar to the review machomuu here has posted.
