You Know How Pokemon Diamand Pearl And Platinum have
    Wifi Connection

if They Make gen5 On Another Console Chances Are it Wont be Compattible With Wi-Fi

    So I was Thinking

If They made it on DS maybe They Could Make A Special Kind Of Patch that is Inserted Into The Wifi Servers For Diamand Pearl And Platinum That Upgrades The pokedex To Allow 5th Gen Pokemon
So That We Wont Have To Spend Like $300 Or More Buying Another Console made By Nintendo

It's not exactly confirmed that 5th gen will be on a new console. I am done with Sinnoh and there's more to the game than just Pokemon. I'd prefer to travel through the new region. Plus, most people don't buy a new console just to play Pokemon. >.> Also, I'm pretty sure they can't add Pokemon through mystery gift, the Pokemon's data has to already be coded into the game, plus the new moves, abilities, etc.

So I guess I'm a "No I want To Pay More Money To get Another Console". >.>

Well It Would be Easy For Nintendo

    They Basicly
Have To Make A Special Line of Code that Would Basicly Hack The Data To Allow All The new Stuff To Be Allowed Into The game Including Everything Listed Below
    The Pokemon
    The Pokemon Crys
    The Mixing Records Thing
    The Wild Pokemon Encounter Data
    The Evolution Data

    And Everything Else I missed

or They Could Make us Pay More Money By releasing
    A Pokemon Diamand+
    Or Pokemon Pearl Enhanced
    Or Pokemon Platinum Upgraded

That isn't possible. DS cartridges can only be written to once. You can't just have a patch that modifies a game like that.

Cartridges can only be written to once. also, there would not be enough space in the rom to include 100 more pokemon.

Way to repeat what I said. Your second statement isn't true at all though. There are DS games that reach up to 2Gb (or 256MB) in size and that's even with garbage data. Pokemon Platinum without the garbage data is only 99.7MB in size.

Then why don't we have rom hackers adding hundreds of new pokemon into the game? I was into hacking for a while, and that kind of thing can not be done.

I don't know why that is as I don't have any experience in ROM hacking but I'm sure Game Freak is capable of modifying the game to allow hundreds of Pokemon because modifying the source is always better than modifying a compiled image.

But as we both said before with the writing of the game to the cartridges only once this is entirely hypothetical.

Yes. The only way I can think of this ever getting done, is if nintendo starts making rewriteable cartridges, but due to piracy, I don't see this happening.

    *taps fingers, has a solution...*
If/when they make a Gen 5 Pokemon game, and it is on the Nintendo DS(DSi, DS-etcetra)...

Why don't you just buy the game?

I mean, more than likely with the DSi out and about Nintendo isn't gonna crank out a new handheld console anytime soon (unless the DSi is already outdated), which means that the new Pokemon game would more than likely be for the DS... *brow arch*

Well there is a news handheld system that Nintendo is making and I forget what it is called but if they make it on that system I hope it is compatable with the DS's Wi-Fi and Vise versa. The system is supposed to be a bit more advanced than the typical DS but if someone could confirm the system name that would help but I know for sure there is a new system and it is not the DS XL either but a totally different system and name. I forget where I heard about it though and it is supposed to be better than the DS so I wonder if the 5th gen games will be on there and I wonder about the 3rd gen Remakes as well too. I have a feeling the 5th gen Pokemon games will not be on the DS and will be on the new handheld that is coming out in about 3-5 years from now.:)

I believe you are referring to the new DS they are talking about that will have Motion Control Sensors, seen here:

    and here:

As far as I know doesn't have a name yet, besides "DS2".

    It wont happen.
Nintendo do not make patches for games and software.

^ This explains everything. Also, since the pokédex in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum only have up to 493 pokémon including new and old, new generations would add up to it which couldn't and wouldn't be compatible.

Ohhh ok. I hope the Wi-Fi will allow it to work with the regular DS and I think the 5th gen games will be on the new DS that is coming out in 3-5 years from now.:)

Ehh, this statement didn't really make sense to me, one of Nintendo's big advantages is the simplicity of Wi-Fi, so taking that away in later games seems totally pointless to me. Unless, of course, I'm misunderstanding and you meant Wi-Fi communication with Diamond and Pearl, which wouldn't be possible.

As others have mentioned all of the Pokémon have to be in the game's coding on the cartridge, which can't be overwritten or edited.

That said, if Gen V is released on DS, they could implement the "Time Capsule" trading system that could used to trade between Gen I and II.
That wouldn't really be the same as what you're asking, but it's probably the closest thing that's possible.

Wi-Fi is a given now and is also standard like Pal Park and the Battle Frontier. These 3 things will always be a part of the Pokemon games. Sure they might tweak them a bit but they will never be gone anytime soon as members use it to chat trade and also battle and with VGC using Wi-Fi for tournaments yearly then it would be pointless without Wi-Fi. Without Wi-Fi no one will have as much fun as we do now and Wi-Fi was a HUGE factor for the Pokemon games and will be for years to come because online play is so much better than the old fashioned way like in FR/LG and R/S/E.:)
