As mentioned, the biggest barrier would be communication, among other things. It would take a lot of determination and a serious work ethic to be able to understand your partner Pokemon on the same level as the anime. As such, I'd say I would definitely be able to put that work into it as I have the love for Pokemon, especially my own, and would do anything it took to become closer to them.

As such, my partner Pokemon would be Buizel and Lycanroc :3

you know, i think if we actually had to handle pokemon we would be a lot more careful about evolution, you know? make sure both we and the pokemon are ready to handle a new form and new power, make sure they have enough room, all that.
