Would you have preferred the health be numbers instead of a bar?

I'm a visual person, so the health bars are fine with me. They give me a better idea of how much health something has, whereas numbers mean nothing to me. In Emerald though, if you press start in a double battle, your Pokemon's health appears in numbers. If that could be an optional feature, then that'd be fine. But I think at this point, the health bar is a staple in the series.

As for numbers actually showing up when a Pokemon is damaged, again, it's like a staple in the series now. It'd be odd to suddenly change it and have damage show up like that.

Oh gosh that health bar helps me way too much for them to just get rid of it. I've played many games where they use numbers instead of a bar, and I've noticed I die a lot more in those games because the damage amount sneaks up on me like a ninja before I even notice I need to heal. The bar lets me know that I'm about to go down in flames, so I'd be ticked if they removed it.

And like Sydian said, it's pretty much a staple now. Removing that, I'm sure, would cause an uproar like you've never seen (as if they didn't have enough to ragequit about).

I don't mind the use of health bars, but it would be more helpful if they displayed the HP numbers on both the enemy and player's sides instead of just the player's side.

Removing the health bars altogether would be just... stupid. Lots of games that involve battles and damage to characters use meters that manifest as either health bars, level numbers, percentages, or a combination of any of these.

Health bars are visual, and imprecise... Which is a good thing. If there were numbers there, this kind of battle would become much more calculated then I would like Pokemon to be. There would be much more of a delay on online battles because of this for some people. And tournaments would get boring fast.

i prefer health bars because i hate math and hate looking at numbers.

I agree. Normally, on things such as Pokemon Online, I do my own calculating because numbers are visible as well, but that's purely for competitive purposes. In actual gameplay, you know, for fun and all that, I don't want to be forced to do that, because with my compulsory attitude, I know that I'd be tempted to constantly to calculations if there were numbers rather than bars.

I really like the health bars because I can easily estimate how many more attacks my Pokemon can take. I would like numbers along with the health bar, though. That way I can know the full HP of a Pokemon going into battle so I know if it will be a 1-hit KO or not. ;)

I'm pretty used to health bars. I honestly think I'd get mad just looking at numbers dwindle down.

The health bar for me is essential, it gives a better visual. Though it would be easier if there was numbers under the health bar so I can have an exact idea of how much HP is left. It would make catching legendary Pokemon less intimidating cause I never know how much more attacks a Pokemon can take without making it faint.
