So I just watched an old episode of Pokemon, Electric Shock Showdown or something and I just realized that the voice actors are a load crap. Seriously I don't understand how I could have ever enjoyed such a horrible show. Then I watched another episode the one where Charmeleon evolves which is like 30 episodes later and for some reason the voices sounded completely different to me and I actually enjoyed it.

So I'm asking if the voice actors were changed in season one or did Ash just have a quiet Texas accent(it's more like an old man trying to make a Texas accent) in the episode where they arrived in Vermillion City?

Actuarly, i noticed that as well (around about when i was 10, i had quite a few pokemon volumes on video) if you watch the 2nd episode, look at jessies voice actor! I dont think they changed the actor i think they just changed how they sounds! (to make em sound alot better)

Those two episodes were WAY before 2008. They are both from the first season.

I don't really know about those episodes sounding different, but I do remember that the first couple episodes sound a bit different than those toward the mid-end of the first season... Like Brock sounds a bit deeper when we first meet him, if I remember correctly... Maybe it's just me, and maybe I'm forgetting since I haven't watched it in so long, but... Anyway, just for the record, the big switch of all the voice actors came when May and Max were traveling with Ash and Brock. I forget exactly which season... Might have been Battle Frontier...? I'm not positive though, so don't hold me to that. For the most part, the first season of Pokemon sounded a lot better towards the end, or at least as it progressed. Oh, and before I forget... I seem to recall Lt. Surge using the term "crybaby" or something... Does it strike anyone else as odd to hear someone who is supposed to be from the military using that term? Talk about hearing lame things in the dub...

The voice actors were still trying to fit into their roles. The only voice actor changes that took place early on was James and Meowth. Meowth still had his old, old voice back then in EP14.
