6th Gen X/Y Third Version Speculation Thread

I'd hate to wait that long too, but ehh... it is what it is I guess. I have no clue on how the VGC works, so I can neither agree or disagree about using it to determine an announcement and release date for the new game. At the moment though, I'm actually more concerned about the reveal of the game, after that waiting for the release of the actual game(s) is a breeze for me.

Sometime after February 27th is what I'm thinking now.

I'm thinking they'll have a Pokémon-themed Direct sometime in February to coincide with the 20th Anniversary and Gen 1 Virtual Console ports (or it could be in January as a way to kick off the anniversary year). They can discuss the ports, Pokkén, and perhaps even Go! and some other spin-offs they have planned for the rest of the year. Then they could finish it off with a reveal for the upcoming game(s) of the main series, similar to how they did X & Y's reveal.

At this rate, I feel the earliest we would get the game(s) is Summer, but because VGC 2016 is confirmed to be ORAS exclusive (and even if they allowed the next game(s) to be compatible, the rules they picked definitely won't give the game(s) any particular chance to shine), I wouldn't be surprised if it was given a Fall release. I honestly wouldn't mind, as long as the game(s) had enough content and a good enough story to warrant such a long development period. Any spin-offs released in the meantime should be able to hold me over until then, too.

At least, that's just what I think.

A Pokemon Direct for the 20th anniversary wouldn't surprise me.

Maybe they'll announce that GSC, and RSE will also be available later in the year as a surprise (GS and RS were both released in Japan in the same day only three years apart, that day will be OrAs' second anniversary too). I would say DPP and BWB2W2 too but they can be played on the 3DS...wait but so can GSC and RSE in the form of their respective remakes, HgSs and OrAs.

Ahh, here's an interesting tidbit...

According to Serebii, a Mew event has been announced to coincide with the VC releases of RBY. But, here's the interesting part... unless he did a type-o on the webpage, the Mew event is going to last clear into March of 2017. And that's just in Japan so far, and if the screenshot is anything to go by, it's still for Gen 6 games. Is Gen 6 really going to last clear into the first part of 2017? I'm thinking he likely goofed on his keyboard and meant to put March 31 of 2016 and not 2017, but yeah...

Well if my theory of 'Z' coming out in October 2016 is correct then we very likely will still be in Gen VI by March 31st 2017 even if the Mew event's expiration is a goof.

Judging by the part of the sentence I highlighted, it seems there is no mistake and the event will actually end in 2017, as 'first year of being distributed' might refer to 2016.
All copies of Pokémon Green, Red, Blue and Yellow on the Nintendo eShop in Japan will come with a special Serial Code within the first year of being distributed and the code will be redeemable until March 31st 2017.

According to Bulbapedia March 31st 1994 was when Mew was trademarked (back then the japanese characters were Mi and yu with a long u or Miyū, instead of Mi yu u, Miyuu) so the end date of the event seems to be a reference to that (the 23rd anniversary of Mew). All these anniversary dates reassure me that we'll see 'Z' released on an Important date of Pokémon history, as I said before either October 12th (XY) or October 15th (Blue (Jp)). Could also be Emerald's in September as OrAs were release on RS' 12th anniversary in Japan (which also happens to be GS' 15th).

Z is an incredibly weird concept right now.

Game Freak has been pumping out yearly releases for a while now, and they seem intent on wrapping up Generation 6 soon, as they're just about done with mythical Pokemon releases (after Volcanion next year)

Could it be that Generation 6 will be split into two parts? The first (XY, ORAS) giving us the content that we received in the past two years and the second (Z) will proceed to add more Pokemon and a new region? Food for thought.

Depending on which region one lives in. In Japan the past six games came out in 2008, 2009 (HgSs),2010(BW),2012,2013,2014 (OrAs) with the previous off year being 2011, while those of us in Europe and NA have had had yearly releases since Platinum (2009).

Also keep in mind that Arceus was unveiled before HgSs were.

thats the past 6 games and what better way to increase sales to keep fans waiting for it til the point where they give up then suddenly word of a new game spreads like wildfire?

hell, people had the damn thing long before the event thx to the action replay and was never released because masuda thought most players would be to stupid to figure out how to use it
NWR: How come the Azure Flute was never made available in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum?
JM: When we were first developing the games we thought about including it. I thought it would be fun. But once the game was complete and released, I changed my mind down the road and didn't think it would be – I thought it would be confusing for people and kind of hard to understand how it worked. So I eventually made the decision not to distribute it.
its also interesting to note that it's game data exists in every main series ds & 3ds game, despite the fact that in can only be obtained in the sinnoh games

I seriously don't want Z. That would just be the same game with Zygarde in it. I would prefer Pokemon ZX and ZY, but not really as sequels. I want them to be new stories with new characters that relate to the originals. Sice Xerosic is in jail and Lysandre is most likely dead, this could be a new story set in somewhat different Kalos.

lysandre is most likely immortal and buried alive.

I feel Z won't happen just due to the anime using the Z title. Getting Z 6 months to a year later would be very weird. I do expect a new Gen 6 game though but after Masuda said he has no plans for Z and the anime arc in Japan Z just seems unlikely to me. Would like XY2 if they tried something really different. Like maybe where you travel between Hoenn and Kalos since the two seem connected. Or one where we get a new war over the typical league. Since a war was a thing 3,000 would be interesting to see a new one happen.

It's not the first one though, the Gen 4 anime was called Diamond and Pearl, while prior to XY&Z this Gen was XY. Also, Masuda said that the Z thing might change depending on what they had in mind/new ideas that might come up. Interestingly after OrAs Masuda said in an interview that he had a lot of idea he couldn't wait to share or something along those lines. Perhaps 'Z' will be the product of these ideas.

Edit: So Pokken fighters is to be released in March, while Pokémon Go is rumored to come out this Winter, and RGBY is to come out for VC in February 27th. If GO does come out this season then Pokémon's release schedule for the rest of the year will be a giant unknown post March. So Perhaps we'll see a main game announced by late March or April like previously predicted, in order to fill up the void.
