    Never heard of it before... but if it hits the market at "the end of summer"... well, that comes just in time - my vB license will be up. :)

    I am truly puzzled as to why you people still waste money on buying forum software whose functionality can almost effortlessly be duplicated and shared across other already-existing free software, given a team of competent, dedicated coders to do the job.

    I await the source code leak once this is released, so I can look over the source and not the pretty colors.

    What're you referring to...? Half of the free forum software are not as good as vB.
    SMF is uber slow... PHPBB gives me a head ache... Imo, InvisionFree was the only thing that could compete with vB but it really isn't free any more...

    What is so good about vBulletin that it's worth paying almost $200 for? I've been a user of vB for 2 years, and I'm very unimpressed at what they're doing. Their developers act as if all the gimmicks that are built-in (which might not even be used at all by some,) justify the ridiculous price that the software is being offered for.

    The systems you cited are "bad" because nobody wants to improve them. People would rather spend $150.00 instead of setting initiatives to build more plug-ins and useful functionality that would benefit an entire market of users for free. I don't see much logic in that.

    You still haven't answered my concern. How aren't the free ones not good enough? What is stopping anyone from implementing x feature from y forum on z software? The forum market thrives enough on copying as-is, and considering you have a bunch of coders I don't see how a collaboration to make things like these happen is impossible. It's quite practical, hence why I think MyBB is possibly the only free forum software in existence that has the formula right, even in regards to customization, even though the code could use a major rehaul and clean-up.

    But really, I hate SMF, MyBB and PHPBB with a passion. As far as I remember, everytime I wanted MyBB to do something for me, it always lacked the feature (I maybe wrong, talking about some years ago)
    I do like the way SMF looks and works, but it is so slow -_-

    Meh... I'm really not the right person to ask that question. I've never paid for anything. But looking at the current forum software, paid software is better than almost everything free.

    I'm not rich, but I'm able to afford a $175. I don't see how it's logical to spend that much money on forum software when you have large plugin repositories available just for your use. If you're not happy with the way they're written, then improve them. If you don't know how to code, then start learning the basics and familiarize yourself with the API of the software. You may end up pouring more time than you think you should, but it's that time that will save you, and possibly others more time in the future if you contribute any changes you make to your code. It'll save you and many others money that you would all otherwise spend just so you can make conversation with people.

    Obviously, you can't blame free forum systems for that. If everyone else is using paid software for feature X and not really demanding it for the free forum system of their choice, then of course there aren't going to be any plug-ins for that feature. The only way to solve that is to stick it to the man and not pay for all this crap. Then you'll actually give plugin developers an incentive to do something.

    A lot of people here claim that they love free software in both senses of the term, but when I see them using vBulletin and IPB, I die a little inside. Shows just how much they love freedom.
     
    I just paid for vB because I like how it looks. >_> Or at least how it looked.

    And uhhh I had a bad experience with MyBB, and I won't go back to phpBB. So I guess that's why I pay? And why I'll probably pay for XenForo...
     
    So, it's out and I've got it installed on my forum.

    Anyone else? :)
