    XY OU Semi-stall

    for Pokemon Showdown

Hi there, so I made this semi-stall team some time ago, and it has won me several battles, even in those which seemed like I was going to lose. I use a FWG core with cleric support, defog support and a Mega Pokemon which has a useful ability before it Mega evolves.

Without further ado, I present to you my semi-stall team, in hopes that it can be further improved.

    [PokeCommunity.com] XY OU Semi-stall

    Heatran
    @ Air Balloon
    Ability: Flash Fire
    EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
    Nature: Calm
    - Lava Plume
    - Earth Power
    - Roar
    - Stealth Rock

Starting my FWG core is specially defensive Heatran. The Air Balloon is self-explanatory. Lava Plume is its main spammable attack, while Earth Power nails other Heatran while Roar is useful to phaze out setup sweepers such as Mega Gyarados.

    [PokeCommunity.com] XY OU Semi-stall

    Quagsire @ Leftovers
    Ability: Unaware
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
    Nature: Bold
    - Stockpile
    - Recover
    - Toxic
    - Scald

Stockpile Quagsire is great! I can't list how many times this thing has sweeped unprepared teams. With Unaware and Stockpile, it can safely set up on most setup sweepers, namely Mega Lucario. Recover is another self-explanatory move. Toxic is there when Scald and its 30% burn chance is not enough.

Note: Considering Earthquake over Toxic as it hits a few notable targets which Scald can't. Do give input if you can.
    [PokeCommunity.com] XY OU Semi-stall
    Gourgeist-Super @ Leftovers
    Ability: Frisk
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
    Nature: Careful
    - Seed Bomb
    - Will-O-Wisp
    - Leech Seed
    - Protect

Gourgeist completes the FWG core. Gourgeist is used as a spinblocker and somewhat a physically-inclined Pokemon check. Seed Bomb is a reliable STAB move and Will-O-Wisp + Leech Seed are Gourgeist's stalling tools and form of recovery and damage.
    [PokeCommunity.com] XY OU Semi-stall

    Sylveon @ Leftovers
    Ability: Pixilate
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
    Nature: Bold
    - Hyper Voice
    - Heal Bell
    - Wish
    - Protect

Much like any other Pokemon which provides Heal Bell + Wish support, Sylveon has just the right bulk to live two to three hits while still being able to fight back with Hyper Voice, a move further boosted by Pixilate, making it undoubtedly stronger than Moonblast.

    [PokeCommunity.com] XY OU Semi-stall

    Mandibuzz @ Leftovers
    Ability: Overcoat
    EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 SpD
    Nature: Impish
    - Foul Play
    - Roost
    - Whirlwind
    - Defog

Mandibuzz provides crucial Defog support as there will be a lot of switching when it comes to battling. Foul Play has helped against Pokemon which try to set up against Mandibuzz. Roost is mandatory as it gives Mandibuzz valuable recovery. Whirlwind functions the same as Heatran's Roar and Defog is yet again self-explanatory.

    [PokeCommunity.com] XY OU Semi-stall

    Mega Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
    Ability: Intimidate (Mold Breaker)
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Nature: Jolly
    - Dragon Dance
    - Waterfall
    - Earthquake
    - Stone Edge

Last but not least is Mega Gyarados, hence semi-stall. Mega Gyarados is a very underrated and powerful sweeper imo. Not only does it have Intimidate before it Mega evolves, which gives it more chances to set up, but it has Mold Breaker after Mega evolving to bypass Pokemon such as Rotom-W. Dragon Dance boosts its Attack to insane levels while giving it a boost to its Speed equivalent to a Choice Scarf equipped at +1. Waterfall is its main spammable move, Earthquake deals with Electric types and Stone Edge provides EdgeQuake coverage, which is pretty impressive.

    Importable to Showdown

    Spoiler:

Thanks for going through my RMT! Do provide advice and suggestions if you can, that will be much appreciated!

You can consider Sitrus Berry for Trevenant because should Trevenant be statused, Sylveon can use Heal Bell to cure it. If Trevenant can't afford to heal with Sitrus Berry, or if its Sitrus Berry isn't restored yet, Sylveon can also heal it with Wish. In that case, you can also use Protect over Rest to stall if you don't have the berry restored.

Mandibuzz's offenses are ridiculously low, making Foul Play pretty much a mandatory attack on it. If you want to use Knock Off, you may have to use it over Defog.

In the case of stalling and relying on Sylveon for Heal Bell + Wish support, wouldn't Gourgeist-Super be a better option over Trevenant? Personally I haven't tested Gourgiest-Super yet because Trevenant is doing fine, but I would like input or recommendations.

Also, should I replace Heatran's Roar with Will-O-Wisp, or should it keep Roar? Kinda biased towards Roar, but I feel like Will-O-Wisp can come in handy too, when Trevenant/Quagsire faints or either Lava Plume's 30% burn chance is unreliable.

I would definitely use Sitrus Berry if you keep Trevenant. Sylveon can heal all your status problems already so a berry focused on status cure would be pointless. Sitrus Berry will assist you more, in case you need the extra HP.

I personally prefer Gourgiest-Super myself. Its a really great physical wall, but weakening a Pokemon with Will-O-Wisp/Burn makes it nearly impossible to take out with Leech Seed with its physical wall. The problem is special defense, which is why you have to play around with your other Pokemon in place for that lack of defense.

I would personally use both Roar and Earth Power in my opinion, but that's up to you. On top of that, you do have one of the grass/ghost type Pokemon who can use Will-O-Wisp themselves, so its not like you're completely without WoW if you choose Roar.

Yes, I agree with PlantinumDude about Mandibuzz & Knock off.

I think it'd be better to keep Roar and Earth Power on Heatran. You have enough burn potential between Will-o-Wisp on Trevenant (or Super Size Me Gourgeist, if you go with that) and Lava Plume. The ability to hit Heatran (and the occassional Chandelure or Arcanine) without switching is very useful. Ground is a useful attacking type anyway, and Quagsire isn't running Earthquake, so you kinda need a Ground move.

Agreeing that Gourgeist-Super would work well here, possibly over Trevenant. It does get some form of recovery in Pain Split and/or Leech Seed

Thanks for the advice, I'll switch out Trevenant and playtest Gourgeist-Super in a while. Also deciding that I should keep Defog on Mandibuzz and Earth Power + Roar on Heatran.

Just a minor thing that bothers me, should I run Earthquake over Toxic on Quagsire? I really want to keep the Stockpile variant and Recover + Scald = pretty mandatory imo. Input would really help, thanks <3

Edit: Updated the OP with minor changes.

Uh just one more question tbh before I wrap up things, should I run 252 SpD EVs on Gourgeist? Or should I just throw everything into Def and leave the special walling to Sylveon and Heatran to an extent.

Leave the special walling to Heatran and Sylveon; they can cover for Gourgeist's exposed Special Defense. Specially defensive Gourgeist isn't worth it.
