5th Gen YAY! WE'RE OLDER! ...What's changed?

They were 15? Shoot. They all look young to me, sorry. There really isn't much of an obvious change here though. I mean, I would agree with what Nica said, but when you think about it, Team Aqua, Magma, and Galactic had radical ideas as well, if not more radical than Plasma's (especially thinking of Cyrus in Platinum) so I mean, does the age make a difference? If those crazy antics in RSE/DPPT were enough to make a 10 year old question it, what difference is there in the players being 15? Although, I do agree with Hikari in that this was probably more of an attempt to gain an older audience. Did it work? Seemed to here. I know a lot of people that picked up BW after quitting Pokemon after GSC. And it was even evident in NU/W when people came and said "oh hey i started hearing about/playing black and white and wanna get back into pokemon" so in that regard, the age thing worked. As a change in the story? Not so much.

Well did they really get into the games because of the age difference made for the protagonists? & How much of them actually know about it?

I honestly don't think it made a change at all. Nothing is being said about the age differences in the game, no one in the game treats you older, completely nothing. Just one confirmation "Oh, they're older now!" and that was it. How many people are going to convince others to buy the games because of that?

I'm more or less speaking for people here, to be honest. So I know that's not a good survey, but it did help some. I have had people tell me that the character looked older, which made them happier and of course, they did more homework on the game and ended up buying it. So no, it's not that it affected everyone, but some people did take notice to it and thought "O HAY" and bam. I was gonna buy the games regardless and didn't care for the age think of course haha. :( Though I did find it odd that you're supposed to start your Pokemon journey at age 10. Why are these characters waiting till they're 15? Lazy? Overprotective parents? Too busy playing Red Version? Hmm. Only poses more questions.

Maybe it's just 10 years old everywhere else but Unova is so far away that no one told them that so they just start at a different time in Unova.

I always thought this was just an excuse for the outfit that Hilda wears because they probably got a few complaints from people about Dawn being 10 and her micro-mini-nano skirt, so if they just put out there "by the way they're not 10 anymore" they can use that to reply to people that complain.

^ That makes sense. The fashion thing, not the far away thing. Though now that you mention that, it is a more city based region than the others were, and cities are usually more dangerous. So I guess that might be why they wait till they're 15. But even still, in those shorts, you shouldn't be all alone in the city...I don't care how old you are lol.

YOU JUST SHOULD NOT BE WEARING THOSE SHORTS.

Sorry that's off topic but I really really really hate the short shorts haha. Although on an interesting note, the Bulbapedia page for Dawn/May/Kris all have no age, and Red is 11 in the games. I wonder if they were actually older earlier and we just didn't know it?

Syd, I think Hilbert and Hilda (the BW player characters) are aged 14 if I can recall.

Well that's actually an interesting point. If they're "older" and around 15/14, aka age progresses like the anime, so for example the oldest protagonists = the age of Pokemon, it could mean that the current ones are around 20. Sure you have 10 years (like Ash @ anime), but just half that and it kind of makes sense imo. Which would also mean that N is around 20 too, meaning why they're also touching on "darker" storylines. It's a jump, but really, just cause it makes sense for them to be 14/15 doesn't mean they necessarily are tbh.

It could be due to Parent's...just look at Bianca's dad...
I wonder if this older character thing will carry on to the next gen...or maybe even the remakes (recon?)...

To me N seems to be in his late teens while the players and friends are around 14, it could be thirteen due to one becoming a "young adult" at that time.
