My updated Emerald team (I've got all 8 badges now):
Gyarados:
Lv.38
(holding Mystic Water)
Strength
Waterfall (for field purposes)
Dragon Rage
-
Right I need some advice for this one. I'm considering Earthquake for the fourth move slot and Dragon Dance will most likely replace Dragon Rage later. Any suggestions?
PLEASE do not use Earthquake on Gyarados, unless you go farming for items with Lv90+ Linoone an pick up and extra one. EQ needs to be on your Swampert. Also don't put HM moves (not called Surf) on your main team. For field purposes, get yourself an HM slave (Tropius and Wailmer are wicked awesome slaves, learning 5 HMs each) and pull them out of PC when they are needed. Too bad that Gyara has TWICE the Atk than it does SAtk, but has an incredible array of special moves. Plus having Swampert makes Gyara a bit redundant. I would go with an Electric-type instead. Magneton or Lanturn are the best in the region, but you cannot get Chinchou until after the E4, and you need to abuse Thunderbolt there. Manectric is a good alternate.
Torkoal:
Lv.34
(holding Quick Claw)
Protect
Body Slam
Iron Defence
Flamethrower
I need some serious advice for this one having never raised one before. This is the fire type on my team as I couldn't think of any other pokemon to put in its place. Would it be better to just teach another pokemon a fire type move instead or what?
Quite frankly, yes. Fire-types are over-rated and unnecessary, IMO. They only occupy the slot of a stronger and more effective Poke. Every single type that is weak against Fire, is also weak to either Ice or Fighting. Add the fact that Fire-types is also weak to Water and Ground (two of the most abused move types in the game) and you can see that Fire-types are best to look at and not use. What I would use instead is a Ghost-type like Dusclops. It is a little more difficult to train, but it has great defenses and can stall while you heal your other Pokes.
Swellow:
Lv.38
(holding Macho Brace)
Fly
Endeavor
Aerial Ace
Quick Attack
I hate this but I need a pokemon who can fly. I don't want a Skarmory. Crobat sounds like and interesting replacement if someone could give me a moveset and some advice. It can definately learn Fly right? Any advice?
First, I would highly suggest you not give a Poke more than one attacking move of the same type (i.e. AA and Fly). That is redundant and prevents your Poke from being more versatile. I would definitely suggest Skarmory over Swellow, but it is built more for competitive/BF play than in-game. Crobat is one arse mutha in-game. It outspeeds all but 2 or 3 Pokes, one of which (Mewtwo) you will not see in-game. Use this moveset:
- Aerial Ace
- Confuse Ray
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
I gets STAB AA and SB (Sludge variety). CR is a nice strike-first move on a Poke and then switch out for something to finish it off. SB (Shadow variety) works against slow Psychics and Ghosts (E4).
Swampert:
Lv.38
(holding Soft Sand)
Ice Beam
Surf
Earthquake
Rest/Roar
Any advice on this one?
First, get rid of Dive and give it Earthquake. A Poke that is immune to Electric attacks and has a STAB EQ attack is simply awesome. It's only weakness is Grass, and not only does it have the stats to survive a Grass-type attack, it can also hit back with a SE IB. The last move is your preference. If you choose Rest, give it a Chesto or Lum Berry to hold to wake it right up.
Breloom:
Lv.40
(holding Shell Bell)
Swords Dance/Leech Seed
Giga Drain
Sky Uppercut
Mach Punch
I like this Pokemon! I wish it could still learn Spore after it evolves though... :(
Advice?
My advice would be to catch another Shroomish and train it until it learns Spore and then switch it in for this one. For this guy, go Giga over Mega, and then take a Heart Scale to Fallorbor and re-teach it Leech Seed. LS is a nice move since it still works when you switch out and heals your switched Poke too, at the expense of your opponent's HP. In this instance, without Spore, two attacks of the same type works since Mach Punch always goes first and can take out a weakened opponent.
Gardevoir:
Lv.40
(holding Kings Rock)
Psychic
Calm Mind
Shadow Ball/Rest/Will-O-Wisp
Thunderbolt
Fantastic Pokemon! Probally my favourite on the team. Shadow ball is so so. I could replace it if there is something better I could teach my Gardevoir.
SB is good, but Rest or WOW can be quite effective too. Rest and Chesto/Lum Berry makes Gardy a bit tankish and WOW is a good status move. Alakazam is still a better sweeper, but Gardy works great in-game and can handle Water-types with a CM TB.
Question 1: What is the difference between Mystic Water and Sea Incence?
The difference is that MW increases Water-type moves by 10%, but SI is only 5%. They are similar in that they both suck as held items. Avoid using them and choose more effective items like Leftovers, Shell Bell, Quick Claw, or even berries like Lum, Leppa, or Sitrus.
Question 2: I noticed after my Mudkip evolved into Marshtomp (Its now a Swampert) it was holding Soft Sand which I didn't give it. How and why did this happen?
Never heard of that happening. I will assume that you got Soft Sand from the girl on the beach at Slateport, gave it to your Mudkip and then forgot you did that.
