    Yu-gi-oh! Duelathon Preparations Thread

    Alright, hello everyone. Altaria and I will be hosting the Duelathon this year, and I'm very honored to announce this. I'll be posting some of the plans I alone have for this year's Duelathon, Please note that these are without any consolation with the co-host, and to the co-host, if you disagree or would like to add anything post below or VM me. Also note that I am new to the Get-Together Hosting scene and this is a new adventure for me. In this thread I will also include a draft of the final event thread.

    Plans

    The first part of this tournament's plan is to utilize the Yugioh Virtual Desktop, aka YVD. It's a fairly simple program that allows you to easily duel and more. There are other programs but I'm sure that this is the easiest one to set up and therefore would be best to use, especially because most of the YGO community I know of already has this installed onto their computers. Of course, for newbies that would still like to enter, I will be adding a 'How to Get YVD' segment to the host thread.

    I'm guessing that once everyone signs up and is ready to go we'll create a bracket to see who duels who, but I haven't given this much thought and any suggestions would be welcome in this department. I guess the easiest way to generate matches is with random.org but again I haven't given it much thought so any suggestions there are also welcome.

    So to put it in tiny terms:
    • Using YVD to duel
    • random.org to generate brackets

    I've also planned to be creating a Participation emblem and will be consulting altariaking to help the creation be adequate.

    I believe this is all. Now on to the next part:

    Thread Layout

    I believe that I either won't be using CSS except for maybe a Contents box to the right, much like the one in the CSS Guide in Webmasters Discussion, or all out CSS. I'd like thoughts on this. So far, the final layout will contain:
    • Explaining how to get YVD
    • Link to the Forbidden/Limited List
    • Some basic info on the event

    That is all. Suggestions are welcome.

    Welcome to the official Yu-gi-oh! Duelathon thread. You will be able to sign up and participate in the Dueling contest here. You will be dueling people from the whole community. Have fun and thanks for joining!

    Rules

    The official Yu-gi-oh! Forbidden/Limited List is here and the Rulebook can be downloaded here. Not following these rules will be resulted as disqualifications to the tournament.

    RULES:
    • No Meta Decks, meaning: No Infernity, X-Saber, or Frog decks. No Meta variants either.
    • Advanced only.
    • 1 Deck for the whole tournament
    • OCG Decks are allowed

    YVD FAQ

    Q: Where do I get YVD?
    A. www.xerocreative.com -> Downloads page.

    Q: How do I make the blank spaces pictures?
    Do the same thing as above, but download the image set. Then, move it to your YVD's Images file.

    Q: A new set was released. How do I update my YVD?
    A. On the YVD software homepage's top left click "Update Set". If this does not work than you will have to download it manually on xerocrative.

    Q: Can I play with OCG cards too?
    A. https://www.youtube.com/user/Yugiohdeckmaster41 has created a YVD.set file with all the currently released cards from the TCG & OCG. I suggest downloading his set for YVD if you are interested in OCG. If you need help implementing the set PM him on YouTube.

    Q: Can I customize my duel field?
    A. Yup. Make an image and when you're done go to the top left of YVD and click "Settings".

    Q: How do I make a deck?
    A. To make a deck, go to the search bar and search the cards you want in your deck. In the middle blank box the card you searched will show up. Highlight the name of the card, and move your mouse down until you see "Add to Deck". Do so until the left blank box is filled with the cards you want.

    Q: How can I duel?
    In the bottom right of YVD, click DUEL! to duel.

    Q: How do I connect to my opponent?
    A. First you have to go to Xerocreative's forum and join. Remember your username and password. Make sure your opponent knows who will be hosting and who will be the client (this is w/ server duel). Once you do so, while you are in the duel page, click the Connect button. Enter your username and password and verify your account. Enter your opponent's username and click Connect once more. If it does not work, you will know if you connect to your self.

    Q: Anything else I need to know?
    A. Nope.

    No. Like I said it's not finished and I've had some ideas:

    I lost my deck a while ago D: I used to be in 5D's... What were those rules again? Some stuff about trap cards, spell cards, right?
     
    Correct. I would explain the basics of the game but all you really need to do is download the Rulebook.

    Also, you have to use YVD to duel. If you don't have it already and can't install it then you cannot enter.
     
    Advanced with no Meta...You'll definitely have to point out which decks are counted as meta and whether or not you can use cards from within said meta. Dark World x Infernity, leaning towards Dark World, for example

    True. No Meta variants either then.
     
    Are you sure those are the only meta decks at the moment? 3 metagame decks seems like an awfully small number for Yugioh Metagame
     
    Right, so the only metagame decks up there are metagame decks taht don't have solid counters to them yet then?
