Yugioh vs. Magic cards

    Which cards will win Magic or YGO?
     
    yeah,Magic was the first game before Yugioh,and it still is a bit popular some places,but I still don't know how to play it ;o; I pick Yugioh cards because I actually have some and I am pretty good at dueling
     
    i gotta go magic for many reasons.
    1)the prices are excellent ($4 for 15 cards unlike yugioh where it's like $8 for 9)
    2)the game is not infested with little 5 year old kids who do not know how to play
    3)there is much more strategy in it not just "ok i play this one card which kills yours no matter what."in magic you need o think for every move,and one mistake can be fatal.
    4)there is a ban list like every year not once every month pretty mcuh
    5)it's just overall better.

    i personally like magic more, but i still play yugioh a little bit.
    i agree with forgotten hope's statements except #3, yugioh does have some strategy in it, (IMO though, i think magic has more)
     
    Magic will survive easily.

    Think about it. Magic has thrived and is thriving without basically any television ads or magazine ads in non-gaming magazines. YuGiOh was EVERYWHERE for a while. It had sales and popularity nearly equal to Magic for a short period of time. Then, it just fell off. It still is popular and selling very well, but it isn't as hot a property as it was even one year ago.

    I remember how hard it was to get your hands on packs of Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon when it was first released to the masses. Now, I can still find them at the WalMart along with EVERY OTHER SET MADE.


    Imagine how big Magic could be if they had the marketing machine Yu-Gi-Oh has?


    It's a combination of game quality and marketing.

    ok it has a tiny bit of strategy but no where close to as much magic has.

    actually...all the advertisement would KILL magic.if they started advertising magic with commercials,and an anime,then thousands of little kids would be like "MOMMY I WANT MAGIC CARDS NOW!!!",then tons of people will buy the cards(including little kids)and kill the game completely

    oh and thats another thing magic is better because they don't have to edit it,and they don't have an anime to slaughter,they have nice educational(very very violent) books. YAY VIOLENCE!
     
    Yugioh. Magic doesn't appeal to me much and I guess I prefer Yu-Gi-Oh. Anyway, this is like comparing apples to oranges. =P

    agreed, Magic has more strategy than Yugioh IMO

    I agree with many of you guys saying YGO doesn't involve any strategy.
    Before the ban did you know how many cards were broken?
    Raigeki, Dark Hole, Monster Reborn, and etc. Pretty soon everyone started running the same deck because pretty soon everyone ran the same cards. So it soon didn't involve any "strategy" but instead it was "the luck of the draw". In magic, it's much more complicating. You have what I like to call "cliche" decks in magic and "uncliche" decks. My goal in magic is to create a very successful "uncliche" deck. In YGO that can't happen because if you do, you'll get slaughtered by the current metagame.

    I wasn't talking about giving Magic an anime or cartoon show, I was talking about advertising and marketing strategies. Have a few televised commercials. Think about this, yes it will bring in less skilled players....but it will also force all players to step up their game.

    Look at poker as a great example. Even as little as five years ago, poker was thought of as more of a backroom, cigar-smoking, men only, gambling event meant to only happen in casinos for big money or people's homes for nickels and dimes. With the World Poker Tour, and the obscenely large amount of WSOP coverage in the last few years....POKER HAS EXPLODED. It's everywhere, you almost can't avoid it. The prize pools have become enormous in nearly EVERY tournament.

    A similar occurence would happen in Magic. More people means more business which means better prizes. Imagine being good enough to compete on the Pro Tour. More business means more money for prizes and more prestige.

    Marketing and Product Quality is the key to surviving in business. How do you think Yu-Gi-Oh has lasted this long??? It's not just because it's a decent game, believe me.

    i never said anything about less skilled player,i was talking about the little kids,because they would never EVER be able to play magic at a young age (6-8 ish)because it is a very tough game to learn.

    well i do agree that yugimon has lasted a long time due to advertisement,but i must also argue that magic has lasted much longer,has more players,and is overall doing better,and they do not need the advertisement,because the have done fine these long 15 years(no i was not around for 3 of them lol) and magic will live on for many many many more years,while yu-gi-oh will die in around 3 years.



    also like i said magic cards are just more affordable(sp?).

    and on the deck subject:
    like you said in yugioh everyone uses the same deck pretty much because there are so many staples in yugimon,that everyone uses them and just makes the game less fun.In magic there may be staples,but they are no where near as powerful as the ones in yugimon (ok well the banned cards are exceptions) because there is always some way to stop the cards,unlike in yugioh where they rein supreme...

    I would have to say Magic. I love the game. I learned how to play Yu-Gi-Oh to play with a younger cusin of mine who always loses her cards.

    1) Magic takes strategy or at least much more. I have come to belive that Yu-Gi-Oh was made for little kids. Almost any card can go in almost any deck. I also have a gameboy advance card battling game for Yu-Gi-Oh and I find that it gets stale and repetative. THe same cards are good almost everywhere.

    2) Magic Cards are realatively durable. Yu-Gi-Oh cards seem to practically fall apart in my hands. I would not be suprised if I dropped one 3 feet onto a pillow and it burt into flames.

    1. It's older so there are probably more cards
    2. There's more strategy.
    3. You have to pay more mana to play creatures so it evens out a bit.

    Okay here's the scoop on magic. They STOP printing sets after 2 years of its release, meaning that if you bought a whole bunch of cards from an old set, the value of the cards would stay or go up depending on its market. :)

    Banning cards in magic is almost inevitable, as the masses of formats that are tourney legal (as opposed to YGO's 2 formats) all have bannings (right now, generally speaking the format we call "standard" doesn't, but it does for this year and last year due to the set that came out the year before last year) to keep the game from growing degenerate for everyone. Again, this is inevitable since magic has had some ridiculously degenerate cards in its history (yes, staples that belong in EVERY deck possible do exist in magic, but the recent years only 1 card actually slipped into the "staple" section...but not in the format where the other staples are.), but the bannings and restrictions keep them at bay. ;)

    $3 million budget on professional magic alone (it was in an advertisement actually, I know for sure the year-end payout was a million tho). If you want to, they have live webcasts on the major extended, standard, and block (these are all just different formats) tourneys. So it kinda felt like a sport. Besides, you can get into pro if you can win the regionals and the nationals (regionals open to public players). ;)

    The strategies are more complex and are more flexible than YGO, sometimes with the rulings so confusing that nobody knows wtf's going on anymore (for those who've played slide vs. slide or combo'd titania's song with lattice, I solute you). Of course, this is a blessing as long as you don't stumble upon those weird ruling stuff. Besides, infinite combos are easier to pull off in magic. ;)

    Normal Magic cards (single sleeved) weight a little more than a triple foiled, double sleeved YGO card (this comparison was made with yata and a random white common). This means more material was placed into the cards themselves. Also note that the "bend rule" cannot be applied to YGO cards (I tried before. :P).

    Magic has R&D that works. YGO doesn't (I'd swear upper deck just relies on Konami).

    Oh, and it's currently 12 years old (made in 1993).

    So the verdict: Mark Rosewater will control us all and we'll all go buy their products printed with addiction ink. XD
     
    Hmm I have never played Magic but I have pleayed Yu-Gi-Oh and i'm the best in my school and my old school.so Yu gi oh wins by default.

    But all you guys say Magic is Pretty good.Who knows maybe someday i'll learn Majic it's sounds pretty good.
     
    yeah magic is very fun and i just started playing around x-mas,and now i hate yugioh cards with a vengeance.lol.
     
    lol it's alright man. We've gotten many converted like you, Forgotten hope. ;) Just stick to standard (Kamigawa and Mirrodin), Extended (up to tempest), and casual (anything you want, except whatever your group bans) and you're set. ;)
