I agree by default Serena and Calem are 15ish. But when it's the player character, they basically become whatever age you want which is why they never say their age specifically in game. I'd say Trevor is about 15 too, he's just a small person. Could be a mature 13 year old though.

I'd like to see more mega evolutions, but I'd really prefer getting some normal evolutions for weaker Pokemon. I'm still waiting for Delcatty to be viable. But it needs a regular evolution not a mega.

I was thinking of baton passing to Banette and any other physical attacking Pokemon I would add. Espeon with Magic Bounce is a good idea, but I already have a psychic type and a dual screener, which is basically what Espeon does. I'm pretty sure I can find gems in caves, but I'll have to check.

I believe the rates are the same for normal random encounters. I just think since IV breeding has become so much easier, people can focus a bit more on breeding shinies with the Masuda Method.
